With many cat calming spray product options out there, it only fits that their prices vary. While most are reasonably priced, some products are quite more expensive than the others. As such, you have to carefully consider the budget or price youre willing to spend on this product.
Of all the products reviewed above, the relaxing spray from the Comfort Zone brand is the most expensive. Yet most reviewers found it as the best among the other relaxing products theyve tried.
Natural Vs. Synthetic Cat Pheromones Sprays
As mentioned above, relaxing sprays for cats can either be of two types. Some companies offer an all-natural product that is made with essential oils like aloe vera, chamomile, and lavender. While other manufacturers market a product formulated with synthetic cat pheromones. The choice here can depend on a cat owners personal preference, but it can also vary depending on how the kitty responds to the products.
Some of these sprays, like the Feliway pheromones product, are designed to target specific behaviors like separation anxiety. So if you want to address such concern in your cat, then its best to get the product that would most likely help with your cats issue.

Do Spray Bottles Work On Cats
Do Spray Bottles Work On Cats? However, you know that biting and scratching isnt something you want an older cat to do in your home. Dont use a spray bottle: There is an old myth about using a spray bottle to redirect a cats bad behavior, but the truth is she likely doesnt associate being sprayed with the bad behavior.
Cats will wrestle and play with each other and sometimes even get a little rough, but that doesnt necessarily mean they are a dominant cat. Cats who live alone may even exhibit these behaviors due to its natural instincts-and you may not even notice! But a dominant cat that lives with other cats will be more obvious. Dominant cats may attempt to establish their dominance in a multiple cat household by hissing, hitting, and growling. Displaced aggression is often observed in multiple cat households when an indoor cat sees an outdoor cat through a window and takes out its anger on a different cat. Some cats will act dominantly in one room with one cat and suddenly switch roles in another room with another cat. Passive aggressive mannerisms from the dominant cat, such as excessive licking, standing on, or sitting on the other cat may be displayed, but swatting and even biting may occur if the submissive cat chooses to stand its ground for too long. There are things a cat owner can do to decrease dominant behaviors in their kitten or adult cat.
How Do You Discipline A Cat For Biting
Give the cat extra attention and playtime, including interactive toys, to reassure him and use some of his energy. Your vet may recommend medication that reduces the cats aggressive tendencies. Why You Should Never Use A Squirt Bottle To Discipline Your Cat
March 29, 2018 By: Summer Samba
My human has never believed in using a squirt bottle on a misbehaving kitty, but many years ago, her boyfriend did. It was when Binga was still mostly a kitten. I hear she was completely insane and acted out all the time. Like, even more than she does now. One of the things she enjoyed doing was clawing the box springs of the humans bed usually a little while before my humans boyfriend had to get up to go to work. That used to make him crazy, and he would squirt her with a water bottle when she did it. He even had it hanging on his side of the bed. Then one day, when she was clawing the box springs like usual, he grabbed the water bottle and looked down through the wrought iron headboard and Binga was cringing, just waiting to be squirted. That was the last time my humans boyfriend reached for that thing.
There are a lot of reasons not to use a squirt bottle to discipline your cat.
Using a spray bottle is a lazy way to stop a cats bad behavior. Its temporary and doesnt solve the problem. But thats not the worst of it. Here is the main reason I think using a squirt bottle on a cat is a bad idea:
It damages your relationship with your cat, and she loses trust in you.
My human works very hard to make sure I know I can trust her. Things like squirt bottles are the antithesis of our bond.
It Turns You Into An Obnoxious Clown
Are you familiar with the classic water-squirting flower trick? The idea is to ask unsuspecting friends to smell that wonderful flower thats pinned on your shirt. Once anyone gets his or her face close enough, you squeeze a hidden pump with your hand which sends a squirt of water right out of the flower and into your victims face.
How would you feel if your best friend were to pull that trick on you? In all likelihood, having water sprayed into your face without warning wont be very welcome. Chances are you will be keeping your distance from that friend in the future.
For your cat, that spray of water is as surprising as a squirt from a fake flower. Kitty was just being a cat, scratching to sharpen his or her claws or perhaps making good use of vertical space in your home by jumping on the counter tops. Theres nothing wrong with these behaviors in the mind of a cat. From the feline point of view, you just decided to launch a very stupid sneak attack with no provocation.

Problem : It Doesnt Resolve The Root Cause
Its important to ask ourselves why our cat is doing whatever it is we dont want them to do. In some cases its obvious and in others, it can be more subtle. Still, theres usually a clear reason why our cats do the things they do. Simply spraying a cat with water doesnt make them not want to do whatever they were doing- it only lets them know they need to be more stealthy about it.
Lets look at scratching furniture as an example. According to Dr. Conrad in an article for ChewyCats scratch for a variety of reasons. It relieves anxiety its a form of exercise it hones their nails it strengthens and stretches their muscles it marks territory. In other words, scratching is something that cats need to do and it isnt just something they do for fun or because theyre bored.
So is it realistic to believe that a spray bottle will correct millions of years of instinct and evolution? Probably not.
Instead, we need to try and redirect the behavior into something more appropriate like a scratching post and allow our cats to fulfill their instinct to scratch.

can I spray my cat with vinegar? Using VinegarEither is fine, though some people feel their pet prefers the scent of apple cider vinegar. Just know that cats may not stand for any vinegar being sprayed or wiped on them. Creating your flea spray is as simple as diluting the vinegar with water.
do cats forgive their owners?

Its Okay To Spray A Cat With Water If You Do It This Way
Spraying cats with a water bottle is very common advice, but is it actually okay?
It is okay to spray cats with water, but its not always the most effective solution to their misbehavior.
Spray bottles will get you immediate results, but after spraying the cat you must address the root of the problem. Do this by encouraging good behavior and discouraging or ignoring unwanted behavior. More permanent deterrents can also help.
For example, you cant spray your cat every time they jump onto the countertop because youre not always around. Therefore, your cat will still climb up there when youre sleeping or at work.
But if you place a permanent deterrent, such as double-sided sticky tape on the counter, your cat will stop going onto the counter permanently.
Of course, these deterrents should always be humane and should never hurt your cat.
In addition, you may purchase a cat tree for the kitchen and encourage your cat to climb that instead using catnip, toys, treats, and encouragement.
In this article, Ill explain when you should use a spray bottle, when you shouldnt, and how to get your cat to listen without a spray bottle.
Does Spray Bottle Work On Cats
4.6/5squirt bottlecatscatsfull detail here
Spraying cats with water from a squirt bottle is not a reinforcement it’s a punishment. The inappropriate behavior will fade away, the bond between you will be strengthened because you’re giving rewards based on something your cat does , and your cat won’t fear or distrust you.
One may also ask, can I spray my cat with water when it bites me? It’s simple when your cat bites or scratches, squirt him with a spray bottle or small water gun. It won’t do any good if, still reeling from your injury, you spray your cat two minutes later. In fact, it might actually perpetuate your cat’s negative behavior.
People also ask, is it cruel to spray cats with water?
Cats don’t enjoy being sprayed with water, and they are smart enough to avoid it, so as a disciplinary technique, it works about 50% of the time. It isn’t cruel and it doesn’t hurt the cat, or your relationship with it. The problem is, as in all things, cats are rampant individualists.
How do you discipline a cat with a spray bottle?
Pull the trigger to spray water at your cat.Aim for his belly or back and only spray the water bottle once. This should be enough to get your cat to stop doing what he is doing. Make sure that you praise your cat when he stops the unwanted behavior. Pet him or give him a treat for stopping.

It Doesnt Address The Root Of The Unwanted Behavior
Many owners use the water bottle to deter the cat from what is in fact a perfectly natural feline behavior. For example, cats jump on counters because they have an innate need to explore high places in their territory they scratch furniture because they need to claw at large stable objects in their territory for various reasons they may attack other cats or even humans due to a variety of reasons, and they may even urinate or defecate outside the litterbox for other reasons.
The point is, there is a reason for Kittys problem behavior. That behavior fulfills a need in your cats life which you shouldnt just ignore.
If you want to teach your cat to avoid the kitchen counters, you have to first provide her or him with alternative vertical spaces to climb on. If you want to protect your couch from being scratched, the first step must be getting the right kind of scratching post and placing it in the right spot that meets the cats needs. If Kitty is peeing on the carpet, you have to figure out why that is happening and address the root of the problem.
Simply trying to deter your cat from any unwanted behavior without providing a suitable solution to his or her needs is an exercise in futility.
Why Your Punishment May Not Work
Cats are smart they can easily learn when the spray bottle isnt nearby and that the spray bottle only works when youre there. This is a common problem with our attempts at punishment. To work, punishment needs to be connected to the exact behavior only and nothing else in the environment. With the spray bottle, your cat is really learning I will be chased off the counter if my person is standing there, looking at me, and the spray bottle is in the area. There are lots of situations where all those conditions arent met and your cat will know they are safe to hop up.
Another factor is your cats motivation for jumping on the counter. If they can sneak a bite of food, get some attention from you, or just check out a desirable high space, then it is probably worth risking the spray bottle. Every choice is a calculation of risk versus reward, after all. If the punishment is unlikely or not as bad as the reward , your cat will keep jumping up.
Effective punishment isnt easy to pull off. It has to be there every single time, whether you are in the room or not, and be at an appropriate intensity that the reward isnt worth it. But, punishment can also become scary, and even traumatizing. A cat can end up with long-lasting fear of certain spaces, people, or things. Some cats react to punishment with defensive aggression toward people or other pets in the area, even if the punishment wasnt caused by those individuals.

Problem : Consistency Is Impossible
When it comes to successfully modifying behavior, consistency is extremely important. So in order for your cat to make a strong connection between the water squirt and something like chewing plants, scratching furniture, or surfing the counter the result needs to be consistent. Since a squirt bottle relies on you to actually be there during the kitty crime its impossible to consistently connect a squirt with the bad behavior.
Instead, your cat will quickly connect the dots and understand that youre the main variable here. Sure, getting on the counter is bad but ONLY if youre around. Otherwise, its a great place to find tasty crumbs, and chewing plants is just plain fun.
