Apathy With A Decrease In Activity

Apathy with a drop in her usual activity can also mean illness, so check her eyes to see if her third eyelid is showing. If she passes this test and is not significantly different, such as not grooming herself at all or being less responsive to activity in her environment, chances are that shes just slowing down with age. At any time that your cat refuses to eat, get her to the vet immediately. Not eating can cause fatty liver disease, which is both quick and fatal.

Senior Cats: What To Expect At 1012 Years

It happens to all cats eventually. Your cuddly kitten is now officially entering her senior years. That does not mean that she does not have many healthy and happy years left to enjoy with you. It only signals that now you will need to become your cats advocate to help ensure she enjoys her golden years. You will need to learn more about the signs of changes in her health, and when to seek the advice of your veterinarian.

The Easy Calculation Of Dogs Age

The easy way to calculate a dogs age is to take 1 dog year and multiple it by 7 years. This is based on an assumption that dogs live to about 10 and humans live to about 70, on average.

For example, a dog which is 5 years old is 35 human years. This isnt a bad way to go from a health perspective because it helps us humans realize that our dogs arent the same as children.

As pets get older, they need extra care and attention. Small dogs are generally considered senior at seven years of age. Larger breeds are often senior when they are 5 to 6 years of age.

Be aware of arthritis and related discomfort or irritability, weight control, sight and hearing issues, and any changes in behavior or activity which could indicate more serious issues.

Visit your vet for exams regularly; adjustments can be made to give your pets a more comfortable, longer, healthier life.

Control Your Pet’s Aging Process

When calculating the age of your cat in human years, it’s important to recognize that various factors may affect your cat’s comparative age to that of a human. This may include variables such as heredity, diet, environment, and physical and medical care. While it’s probable that you don’t have any say over heredity, you do have options for controlling other factors that have an effect on your cat’s aging process. For instance, if you have a senior cat, you can provide them with special needs by performing a weekly physical, brushing hair and teeth daily, and feeding them proper nutrition.

If, however, you have a kitten, you can pay attention to key development stages in the first eight weeks. The first week, you’ll want to understand that your kitten will be born with eyes closed and ears folded, and weight will be somewhere between 90 to 100 grams. Around day three, you can expect the umbilical cord to fall off. After seven days, weight should double. Ensure that in week two your kitten’s eyes open and baby teeth begin to form. In the third week, ears become pointed and a few kittens will start to explore the environment. By week four, you can expect some more teeth and better hearing. In weeks five to eight, you can expect your kitten to see fully, try to eat solid food, and a change in eye color and activity. During this time, you should prepare for your kitten’s first vaccination.

Convert Cat To Human Age Chart And Calculator

How Old is Your Cat in People Years?

Synopsis: Chart and calculator provide quick conversion of a cats age in years to an approximate equivalent human age. Cats age much more quickly in their first two years of life and then the aging process slows down and continues more steadily in that for every human 2 years, each cat year equals approximately 4 human years. On average, indoor cats may live from 12 to 18 years, and many even survive into their 20’s.

How Long Do Cats Live On Average

What are the facts on cats longevity? The ideal cat can or may live to 20 years and older. On average, wild, homeless, and feral cats live dramatically shorter lives than domestic cats. Outdoor cat lifespan ranges widely, anywhere from three to 10 years. Indoor cats live nearly three times as long as outdoor cats. The numbers varied widely ranging from 14 to 20 years.

According to the site icatcare.org, there are 6 life stages for cats:

  • Kitten the young cat is growing rapidly and is usually not quite sexually mature
  • Junior the cat reaches full size and learns about life and how to survive it
  • Prime the cat is mature physically and behaviourally, and is still usually healthy and active, looking sleek and shiny and making the best of life
  • Mature the cat is what we call ‘Mature’, equivalent to humans in their mid-40s to mid-50s
  • Senior

How To Calculate Cat Years To Human Years

  • First two years of the Cat = 25 years of a human
  • Then every year of human is equal to 4 Cat Years. However, this depends on how active your Cat is, and use our cat years calculator to convert their age. This calculator will give you a rough estimate of cats age to human years.

That old chestnut about one cat year being the equivalent of seven human years is just plain wrong. For example, a six-month-old human is a babe in arms, whilst a six-month-old cat can look after themselves and have kittens of their own. Converting cat years to human years is complex because our feline friends age rapidly in their first couple of years and then slow up.

But more important is knowing your cats life stage. This matters because the organs work differently as the body ages. When you adjust their diet to put a minimum strain on their kidneys, this helps extend the average lifespan of a cat.

The image above is an approximate calculation of how many years a cat would be if it were human. One of the important issues to keep in mind are the life stages of the kittens. During the first two years, cats become adults, so their first two years would be like our 24 years.

From there, the most common equivalence is to think that each year of the cat equals 4 human years. With this you can get the answer for your question how old is my cat. And also you will get the cat years chart too.

During Dogs first two years they age faster than humans, so need to multiply by 15, and after this period ratio gradually slow down to 1:5, by using the calculator you would be able to convert your dogs age to human years.

People have been comparing human to dogs life span for centuries. The origins of those comparisons are obscure and scarce. However, evidence shows that people were trying to calculate their dogs ages since the 1200s. An inscription on the Cosmati Pavement in Westminster Abbey, dating back to 1268, states that one human year is equivalent to nine years. Later on, in the 1950s, dogs had two years trimmed off their lifespan and the 7-year rule became popular. This 7:1 ratio was based on pure logic and statistics. At that time, on average, humans lived to about 70 years while their four-legged mates lived to about 10 years. In 1953, based on the research conducted by A. Lebeau, it was established that:

  • During their first year of life, dogs age 15-20 times faster than humans
  • Then the ration gradually slows down to 1:5.

To be more accurate:

How Old Is Your Cat

You can calculate the age of your cat, in human years, as well as your age in cat years with the Cat Age Calculator. Cats develop particularly quickly in the first few years of their life and then more slowly once they reach maturity. The first year of a cat´s life is equivalent to 15 human years whilst the second year is only equivalent to 10 human years. When a cat has fully grown into an adult, each cat year is equivalent to 4 human years.

Why Convert Dog Years To Human Years

Giving your pooch, a human age is not just a whim. Knowing their age in human years helps you determine its life stage. Once its life stage is determined it is easier to understand its needs and provide life-stage specific care.

In the canine world, there are six life stages:

  • Puppy at this point dogs go through major physical mental changes. During this phase, it is important to focus on socialisation, training, nutrition and handling.
  • Junior at this point dogs are sexually mature but still physically growing. This stage is usually marked by certain behavioural issues like short attention span, fear and wandering.
  • Adult at this point dogs are socially mature and finished growing physically. However, they need proper attention regarding behaviour, physical activity, nutrition and medical needs.
  • Mature at this point dogs do not have specific needs but do require annual vet exams.
  • Senior at this point dogs eat less, sleep more and are reluctant to physical activity.
  • Geriatric at this point dogs need bi-yearly vet examinations because their physical health can quickly decline. When parenting a geriatric dog, it is important to recognise if your dog is suffering.
  • Documented in the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest hound in the world is from here in Australia, and He is a cattle dog named Bluey. He was put to sleep on 14th November 1938. He lived for 29 years and 5 months. If you converted 29 years using the below chart that would be 130 human years.

How To Calculate Your Cat’s Age In Human Years

At first it’s a little tricky, but then it gets very simple, Becker says. That’s because cats will develop rapidly in their first two years of their livesreaching the human equivalent of the mid-20s by the time they’re 2 years old.

Here’s how Becker lays out the process: A 1-year-old cat is the equivalent of a 15-year-old human. Then, a 2-year-old cat is 25 in human years. Then it gets much easier: Each year of a cat’s life is roughly equal to four human years, so a 3-year-old cat is about 29; a 4-year-old cat is 33; a 5-year-old cat is 37; and a 6-year-old cat is 41. And so on and so on. If your cat gets to 20, she’s around 97 human years old.

Unlike dogswho have different human age equivalents depending on their sizethe formula for cats is universal because they’re all roughly the same size.

    Indicators Of A Cats Age

Eat, Work and Blog: Kitten 101: Feeding is Believing

If youve taken in a stray cat or adopted a cat whose age is unknown, there are some ways to determine her age in cat years. Here are some things vets check to get a general sense of how old a cat is:

  • A Cats Teeth: Teeth are a great indicator of a cats age in cat years. Older cats tend to have more staining than younger cats, assuming the previous owner was negligent in brushing the cats teeth. And a kittens teeth first come in between two to four weeks; their more permanent set appears at around four months of age. So if you open a cats mouth and find permanent, white teeth, the feline is likely to be around a year old. Some yellowing might place the cat between 1 and 2, and tartar build-up on all the teeth indicates that the cat could be between 3 and 5. Missing teeth may mean you have a senior cat on your hands.
  • A Cats Muscle Tone: Younger cats are more likely to have some muscle definition from their higher activity level. Older cats are usually a bit bonier and may have some extra skin hanging or protruding shoulder blades.
  • A Cats Coat: The condition of a cats coat is another great indicator of a kittys age in cat years. Kittens and younger cats usually have soft, fine coats, whereas older cats tends to have thicker, coarser fur. A senior cat may display grays or patches of white.
  • How Many Years Do Cats Live On Average

It’s common to see a cat reach 20 years old these days, Becker says, so it’s safe to assume a healthy cat will make it within a few years of that. Recently, the world’s oldest a cat made it all the way to 31 years old.

We can’t guarantee your feline pal will make it into a third decade, but there are a few things you can do to elongate your cat’s life. Becker lists three main factors that determine your cat’s longevity: heredity, environment, and nutrition.

There’s not much you can do about heredity once you bring home your cat, Becker says. But you can do your best to make her environment safe. That means limiting time outsidewhere dangers like predators, vehicles, and parasites could injure your cat. That’s why outdoor cats generally don’t live as long as their indoor counterparts.

The third factor is nutrition, so you’ll want to work with your veterinarian to make sure your kitty stays as close to her healthy weight as possible. Cats at or near their ideal body weight will live longer than those who aren’t, Becker says.

    Indoor Vs Outdoor Cats

It may sound strange but where your pet stays indoors, outdoors, or dabbles in both can play a role in how they age. While its a debatable topic in the animal kingdom, there is reportedly reliable rationale data on both sides of the argument.

Animals that remain indoors dont expose themselves to the trauma or infectious diseases that can result from running around outdoors. That may result in longer lifespans. But the other side argues indoor felines are at greater risk of illness to environmental limitations.

The exact opposite applies to outdoor felines. They may have stronger immune systems by engaging in stimulating, natural, new environments. But they also increase the potential for stress, trauma, and disease as they explore the unknown.

Owners, knowing the signs of aging and their cats lifestyle, will be able to better decide how to manage their pet as they age.

Nutmeg was from the UK and he led a really happy and uneventful life with a wonderful couple, Liz and Ian Finlay, who considered him their son. It wasnt until 2015 that he suffered a serious seizure and stroke. Nutmeg was treated by Westway Veterinary Centre in Newcastle and they helped him bounce back from the incident. Sadly, his health made a turn for the worse during the summer and he passed away on August 29, 2017. The Finlay family is completely heartbroken and do not plan to get another cat.

20 year old cat finally finds a home

Cats are much older than they look. The general rule of working out a cats human age depends on the growth, development and life stage she is in.

If youre still wondering how old your healthy cat is, a rough equivalent of cat years to human years is calculated as 15 human years for cats that are 12 months and younger, then go up 9 years to work out kittys second birthday, and finally each cat year after two is an additional three or four human years.

Why Do Smaller Dogs Live Longer Than Larger Dogs

Generally speaking, large mammals like elephants and rhinos, live longer than small mammals, like mice and guinea pigs. However, when speaking about dogs, this is not true. It is well-established that smaller dogs live longer than large dogs. For many years, this peculiar phenomenon has baffled scientists. The relationship between body mass and life expectancy is quite complex and not fully understood. Nevertheless, recent studies suggest that a dogs life expectancy is reduced by 1 month for every 2 kilograms of body mass. The reason why is not known but there are several evidence-based and objective options:

    • Larger dogs tend to succumb to age-related illnesses sooner than smaller dogs
    • Due to their accelerated growth, larger dogs are at higher risk of abnormal cell growth and consequently cancerous changes.

Great Danes grow quickly in size but do not reach maturity until 2 years old. Their average lifespan is 6-8 years. On the flip side, Yorkshire Terriers reach maturity when less than 12 months old and have a particularly long lifespan that often exceeds 15 years. Therefore, both the lifespan and the ageing rate depend on the breed.

A 4-year old Miniature Schnauzer is younger than a 4-year-old Neapolitan Mastiff. However, since smaller breeds mature more quickly, it is only logical to assume that a 1-year-old Chihuahua is more mature than a 1-year-old Great Dane.

When creating a warrior, it is important to know what their age is. In real life, free-roaming cats like the warrior Clans in Erin Hunter’s books are expected to live to only three years. Now this cannot work in Erin’s books because then we wouldn’t have any elders, and the Clans have amazing healthcare. This is where we have have sex to bend the facts of reality a bit to fit in with the books. In real life the average house cat lives from 15 to 18 years. So what I did to get a reasonable life expectancy for the cats in the books is I subtracted 3 from 15 and got 12. So we will say that in the Warriors series, the average cat can live to be 10 years. Why ten? Because these warriors are also going through battles, leaf-bare, green-cough, etc. The extra 2 can be if they retire to the elders den and don’t catch green-cough, etc.

Loners and Rogues apply more to the Real Life expectancy of 3 years but for the sake of the books, we will say they can live to 6 years. Clan cats can live longer since they work together to survive, and they have nice healthcare. Strength in numbers. Strength with doctors. Kittypets will most likely apply to the real life expectancy of 18 yearsMrrowWhen comparing human age to cat age, we know a cat’s top age can be 12. And a human’s top age can be 100. Thus we have the formula:

    100 = 12.

To calculate cat age, you simply place the human age over 100 and create a formula like this:

    Then Solve for x.

Thus the result is 2.4 years.

    Human Years

Two Ways To Look At Age

Though the common perspective on cat years and human years is trying to figure out how old our cats are in human years, that conversion can be applied both ways.

That is to say, if you consider the maximum age of a human to be 100 years, then, based on the Cat Calculator, the maximum age of a cat is 20.8 years. On the other side of the coin, if you consider that, as The Cat Bible suggests, 16 human years is comparable to 84 cat years, then a 100-year-old human could be said to be the equivalent of 525 cat years.

Though this is a generally less practical way to consider the relative aging rate, it does serve as an important reminder The way we experience time, the length of our human years, and the meaning we assign to certain-numbered years , is a matter of perspective. Some other oft-quoted ideas come to mind: Its not the years in your life, but the life in your years and Youre only as old as you feel.

How old is your cat according to this formula? Or perhaps I should ask, how old are YOU in cat years?

How To Calculate Cat Age In Human Years

How old is your cat in human years? #catlife # ...

Itâs commonly stated that one human year is the equivalent of 7 cat years. This is an effort to demonstrate that cats age more quickly than humans. However, they do not age proportionately.

Cats reach maturity at a much faster rate than humans in the beginning of their lives. Once they reach adulthood, their aging slows down.

Itâs difficult to draw a direct comparison between a catâs age and its human equivalent, but the general consensus is that a cat ages the equivalent of 15 human years in the first year of their life.

From 2 years on, experts believe cats age at a rate of approximately 4 human years per cat year.

How Many Years Is A Cat Year

Cats experience life at a much more accelerated rate than people do. In comparison, a cat reaches sexual maturity at five months and can become pregnant with a litter before there is time to spay or neuter.

Likely the most use that the cat years to human years calculation can serve, is that it helps veterinarians determine which of the six life stages a cat is in, amongst them: kitten, adolescent, or senior. Other factors play an important role in determining age too, not only a cats human age.

    Cat Years Calculator Principles

It’s a common misconception that one year in the life of a cat is equivalent to seven human years. In reality, the cat years calculation is a bit more complicated. Kittens grow fast while they’re still young, but the older they are, the slower the aging process becomes. It means that after one year, your cat is as old as a seven-year-old human child, but for older cats, each year is equivalent to only four human years.

Naturally, not all cats age alike. A cat that lives outdoors will generally have a shorter life than an indoor cat. Additionally, while typical felines live about 10-15 years, certain breeds age slower or faster. Still, this cat age calculator should give you a good idea of the seniority of your cat.
