Technically yes.

If your cat has an egg allergy, its dangerous for your cat to eat eggs. But egg allergies in cats are not at all common, so its more likely perfectly safe for your cat to eat.

Its also not a good idea for cats to eat;too much egg, but this isnt about immediate danger and is more about long-term safety and well being. Thus, taking us into the next question

Question: What Is Bad For Cats To Eat

Answer: While eggs contain a lot of nutrients that your cat needs, feeding your cat too many eggs can cause severe health problems.

Also, some cats should never eat eggs. This is why it is very important to discuss with your veterinarian before feeding your cat eggs or any other human food.

Feeding your cat excess eggs is bad; eggs are high in fat, cholesterol, and calories. It does not take a large portion to fill all of your pets nutritional requirements for these substances. And too much of it can lead to kidney problems in cats.

Eggs are not a nutritional balance for cats and should only serve as a treat or supplement that is part of your cats healthy diet. Too many eggs can lead to obesity and other health problems.

How Much Egg Can Cats Eat Safely

Cats should never have too many snack foods period. The rule of thumb is to only feed around 10% of your cats diet in snacks which include;all foods besides regular cat food combined.

Why? Lets say your cat has a daily recommended calorie count of;200 calories . If he or she has 20 calories of snack foods besides regular cat food combined, that leaves 180 calories of cat food a day enough to make sure your cat eats all the valuable dietary nutrients found in a balanced diet cat food necessary to ensure long-term overall health.

Now lets say the snacks are upped to 40 calories. Either 1. Your cat is now consuming more calories per day than necessary , gaining weight and eventually possibly having issues with obesity, or 2. Your cat is consuming less of a balanced diet , which means he or she may not be getting all the valuable nutrients out of the regular cat food necessary for long term health.

So stick to around 90% cat food, 10% combined snacks if youd like to give snacks beside regular cat food.

Since the typical large egg is around 72 calories, if you only feed your cat eggs as a snack and you want to give him or her a little bit each and every day, you can safely feed your cat around one quarter, or 25% of a large egg every 24 hours.

A whole egg would blow the calorie count out of the water, and so would half an egg.

Can Cats Eat Egg Yolk? What You Need to Know!

Well, I have that cat, my own 15-year old boy Flynn. And hes on the same diet hes always eaten. The cats get a mixture of homemade raw, frozen raw, and/or dehydrated raw, with appropriate supplements, and a sprinkling of various high-quality canned food. Hes doing great, maintaining weight, and acting absolutely normal.

The thing is, CKD kitties need high-quality protein to maintain their body weight and system functions. Restricting protein ultimately causes loss of body condition.

Im going for maximum quality of life, rather than simply extending life, which is what the kidney diets do. They treat one aspect of physiology while neglecting the needs of the rest of the body. Now, he may not live as long as he could if I put him on a restricted diet. But when its time to let him go, Ill know hes had the maximum gusto and enjoyment from his life that I have the ability to give him. Thats just my personal preference. Its not for everyone.

I;havent changed Flynns food;Hes got a great appetite, his weight is stable, and he is not symptomatic. He does get a number of supplements, plus the blood pressure medicine . He acts completely normal.

Is It Dangerous For Cats To Eat Raw Eggs

Id strongly advise cooking eggs before feeding them to your cats.;Consuming raw eggs can lead your cats to contract Salmonella, E. coli, or Campylobacter, and that bacteria can then transfer to you and your family members.

If youre aware of these risks, however, and happen to be okay with chancing them so long as you can feed your cat a raw diet containing raw eggs, know that there dont seem to be any other side effects or downsides besides that could harm you or your pet.

In the same article I referred to before, Dr. Eric Barchas addresses the only other health problem that could come about from cats eating raw eggs head on:

Egg whites also contain a protein called avidin, which binds biotin . Overconsumption of avidin could cause biotin deficiency. Cooking denatures the avidin. Therefore, it is recommended that cats consume only cooked eggs.

But lets be honest and realistic: A cat would have to eat a LOT of raw egg, probably over a period of months or years, for such a deficiency to develop. Are raw eggs really that bad? Probably not.

Thus, if youre willing to take the risk on the Salmonella/E. coli/Campylobacter front, and youre not feeding an exceptionally high volume of raw eggs , things should be fine.
