Local Cat Rescue Adoption Group Gets $1000 Donation

Project Freedom Ride Rescues Dogs

EVANS, Ga. – Over the weekend, a local non-profit that rescues and adopts cats and kittens received a $1,000 donation.

Warner Brothers Studio made the donation when a local viewer won the Soft Kitty Sweepstakes by guessing clues during recent episodes of The Big Bang Theory.

News 12 caught up with volunteers of Kitty Konnection at the Petco in Evans.

Kitty Konnection has rescued and adopted around 4,800 cats and hopes to reach 5,000 by this year. Volunteers say you can help by fostering a kitty until they can be adopted by their forever family.

We understand not everyone can open their home to a kitty right now, so donations are always needed. They help with medications, they help with spay/neuter surgeries because we cover that with every kitty thats adopted through Kitty Konnection, said Jennifer Luton, Kitty Konnection.

Kitty Konnection is made up entirely of volunteers, theyre at Petco on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m and some Sundays from noon to 3 p.m.

Check them out if youre able to give a kitty a forever home. If you would like to donate, visit

What Is Animal Rescue

Cat for adoption

Every day, there are so many surrendered, stray, and unwanted animals. We strongly beg you do your part to help us help the animal overpopulation. Make sure your pet is spayed and neutered. There are many pets of every shape and size that are put to sleep in animal shelters because there are not enough homes for them. Do not contribute to the animal overpopulation problem.

When you own a pet, you are blessed to have them as your responsibility for life. Surrendering them to animal shelters is not taking care of them. Whether old or young, they are your gift to care for and protect until they die, not just until they are no longer convenient.

Animal rescue groups work around the clock daily to rescue and network these pets that do not have a voice or someone to care for them. Please help us take care of those animals who need help. Our clinic stands on the principle of animal rescue, and we will do everything within our power to support those pets who need help and to assist those who help save so many animals that have no one to care for them.

Voluntary Registration Of Livestock

Aiken Animal shelter sees decrease in animal adoptions

We encourage all livestock owners in the county to voluntarily register their livestock with the Animal Services Department’s Livestock Owner Database for free.

Doing so can save you a lot of time and money for several reasons:

  • When we receive a complaint of livestock being loose in either someones yard or in the highway we first try to locate the owner via our livestock database to let them know we had a complaint and to see if they can put the animals up
  • In the event of a natural disaster, we can utilize this information to find the owners of livestock who may have escaped through damaged fencing, saving you a lot of time and worry
  • If we have to impound livestock because an owner cannot be found, the owner is responsible for paying the impound and any boarding feeswhich are set quite high due to the amount of manpower we must use to contain and transport the animal back to the shelter
  • If no owner comes forward for livestock in our possession after the mandatory five day holding period, the animal will be placed for adoption.

We know that no citizen wants to lose their investment, which is why we strongly suggest all Columbia County owners complete the free Livestock Registration.

To protect your investment and to expedite the return of your animal, please contact the Animal Services Department or fill out the online registration, with the following information:

Why Is Hugo Being Rehomed

Augusta shelter waives cat adoption fees

Hugo is a stray that we have fostered for about 6 months. He is unchipped and we have not been able to locate a prior owner. He is a very sweet boy and we love him dearly, but we have 2 cats already that are territorial and we have not been able to successfully integrate all of them. The situation is causing too much stress for everyone so he would be better off in a different home.

Hugo is a special needs cat as he is FIV positive and would likely do best in a home with no other cats. However, a home with non-territorial and easy going cats could also be a good place for him if he is properly, slowly, and safely introduced to the other cats. However, Hugo will need to be strictly indoor since he is more prone to infection and will need to go to the vet at least twice a year and at any sign of illness.

FIV is a very manageable condition and is not transferable to dogs or people and extremely rarely transferred among positive and negative cats who get along.

Sadly, many cats with FIV are put down due to lack of information and lingering stigmas that are not fact based .

Adoption Process & Fees

Our writing team is hard at work researching this shelter’s adoption process and fees, so this page will be updated soon!

In the meantime, below you’ll find some nice-to-know info that applies to nearly every animal shelter, humane society, and rescue.

But first…

  • Most Rescues are foster-based organizations that don’t have physical facilities.
  • They usually have websites and contact emails, but not all of them have phone numbers.
  • Because they don’t have a physical facility, you need to view animals in their foster network online, usually on their website but sometimes on their member pages on either PetFinder or Adopt-a-Pet.
  • If you see an animal you’d like to meet, contact the rescue using the process listed on their website or via email. They’ll help you through the application process and set up a time for you to meet the animal at the foster’s home.
  • Adopting from a rescue generally is the most expensive option here and takes the longest, but you get an animal that’s been cared for in a loving home environment and their foster can tell you a lot about their personality.

Tips To Improve Your Adoption Experience

Adoption processes vary drastically from organization to organization, but here are some general tips that apply in most instances. Note that we’ll use the term “shelters” here for simplicity but it includes all types of rescue organizations.

  • See an animal online that you’d like to meet? Call the shelter before your visit to make sure the animal is still available. This especially applies for puppies, which are adopted out quickly.
  • Usually, you’ll need to get some paperwork in order: a photo ID, vaccination/medical records for any pets you currently have, possibly your vet’s contact info and a couple of personal references, and proof you’re allowed to have a pet .
  • If you need to provide contact info for your vet, let your vet know ahead of time. Otherwise, they may not release your information.
  • Many shelters require your current dogs to meet adoptive dogs. Your current dogs need to be up-to-date on vaccinations.
  • Some shelters require you to schedule a home visit to ensure a suitable living environment for the new animal.
  • If you have any questions about adopting an animal feel free to contact the PetLists team!

    Why Should You Adopt

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
