Helping A Cat In Need

Pomeranian, Puppies, For, Sale, In, Des Moines, Iowa, IA, Bettendorf, Marion, Cedar Falls, Urbandale

Maine Coon kittens from breeders are guaranteed to find loving homes right away, but cats at rescue centers sometimes have to wait years before finding a home.

People are less likely to adopt adult cats, but they are just as loving and rewarding as kittens.

Adopting a Maine Coon from a rescue center is a great way to provide a forever home for a cat in need.

City Ordinance And Enforcement

The City ordinance allows the City Clerk to grant a waiver of the three-dog limit for one additional dog under the following conditions:

  • The additional dog’s full grown weight is not more than 20 pounds as certified in writing by a veterinarian
  • The owner provides a current rabies vaccination certificate for the additional dog
  • The owner provides proof the additional dog has been spayed or neutered
  • No more than two cats reside on the property, subject to the waiver
  • The waiver certificate shall be maintained by the owner, and must be available upon request

No owner, possessor, or person in charge of a dog, cat, horse or other animal shall fail to clean up or immediately remove any excrement or droppings deposited by such dog, cat, horse or other animal on any property not owned or in control of that person.

In addition, the owner of the pet is also required to remove any excrement or droppings from their property.

Pet waste should be disposed of in garbage cans, not yard waste containers or storm drains.

Cats are not required to be leashed however, if a cat is not confined within a premise, it is required to be spayed or neutered, and properly licensed.

Many registered breeders now operate 1-5 year waiting lists for their kitten breeding programs.

You might be surprised to learn this, at first, because when you type the words Maine Coon kittens for sale near me in your Google search bar, the internet always delivers an overwhelming large amount of results.

We are a 501 3 charitable organization and rely solely on donations. We receive no government funding.

Arl: Keep Your Pets We’re Over Capacity

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa is asking pet owners thinking about handing over their animals to give their pets a second shot. The shelter is at record capacity and it’s quickly running out of space for more animals.

The ARL has nearly 1,500 animals and it gets about a dozen more pets each day, according to Tom Colvin, ARL executive director. It’s to the point where the ARL is asking owners to hold onto their pets, at least for now, until numbers begin to decline.

We are doing everything we can to keep up with that number of animals and are getting them into homes as fast as we can, but we really need the publics help,” Colvin said. “Cats represent the majority of pets in our care right now so we especially need fosters and adopters for kittens and cats of all ages.”

Colvin said the shelter can comfortably handle about 800 pets, or about 1,000 pets with the help of foster families.

Here are some ways the ARL says people can help alleviate overcrowding at the shelter:

1. Keep your pets: The ARL can help owners overcome challenges with pets they want to surrender. There are a variety of free programs and services offered at the shelter:

Some restrictions may apply, so contact the ARL for help with any of the above services at 515-262-9503 or . Outside of the Des Moines area, pet owners should contact their local shelter for assistance.

Maine Coon Rescue Centers

There are a few rescue centers dedicated to finding homes specifically for purebred or mixed Maine Coon cats.

These rescue centers only take in Maine Coon cats in need of a forever home.

Of course, these centers are much harder to find than a local shelter, and they usually only have a few Maine Coons available at any time.

Where To Find Maine Coon Kittens For Free

Purchasing a Maine Coon kitten from a registered breeder is the surest way to get a healthy, purebred cat. However, this option is very expensive, and not everybody can afford it.

In fact, you can expect a reputable breeder to charge you between $500 and $2,500 for a single Maine Coon kitten!

Since this steep price is a stretch for most individuals budgets, please take comfort in the fact that you can also still find Maine Coon kittens in other places, at a much cheaper price.

If you have been searching on Google for free Maine Coon kittens for adoption, you will have to be patient.

Even though you can find these cats at shelters or even on online groups such as Facebook, Maine Coons are quickly snatched up by other potential owners, so it may take a little longer before you are able to get the kitten of your dreams.

Forever Home Dog Rescue

Newborn Kittens For Sale In Des Moines Iowa

We pull dogs when they are in danger of being euthanized in high kill shelters. We then arrange transport of the dogs and put them into temporary care homes. We prefer to have our dogs in homes because this allows us to know our dogs behavior and personality better. It also allows the dog to start learning what it is like to be a part of a family and what is expected of them.

*Forever Home Dog Rescue does not have a physical location for people to come see dogs. Our dogs are all in temporary care homes. Please fill out an adoption application listing the dogs you are interested in meeting and we will contact you to answer questions about the dog and set up a time for a meet and greet. Please note that we are all volunteers with full time jobs and families. We try to return messages in a timely manner but sometimes the demand for a particular dog or litter of puppies is high and it is hard to keep up with all the inquiries. Please be patient with us and feel free to contact us again if you have not heard from us within a day or two.
