Why Is It Important To Protect Your Dog

How Does Advantage® II Work to Prevent Fleas on Your Cat?

Your dog is important to you – perhaps even your best friend. You want to provide the best care possible for this important member of your family. Elanco understands this bond you share with your pet and works continuously to provide products and solutions to help safeguard the health of your pet.

Not all products work the same. Elancos Advantage® II protect your dog from parasite bites by killing parasites through contact, no biting required. What does this mean? It means that the product is applied and stays on the outside of your dog so that fleas, ticks and mosquitoes dont need to bite in order to die. It’s also safe for puppies as young as 8 weeks old so there is no better time to start protecting your loved one.

Do Fleas Jump Off Cats After Treatment

The main thing is to give it time. Once a flea infestation has set up in your home, it can take a while to completely clear it. The cocoon stage in the flea life cycle can remain dormant within your home for many months, so new fleas can continue to emerge for months, even after treatment.

Can I Bathe My Cat After Applying Advantage Ii

Yes. Advantage® II is waterproof after 24 hours. However, we suggest bathing your cat before applying Advantage® II. Just make sure your cat is thoroughly towel-dried before application. If you choose to bathe your cat in between treatments, we recommend use of a general grooming shampoo for pets. Keep in mind that more frequent bathing may keep the product from working the full 30 days.

How Do I Store And Dispose Of Advantage Ii

Do not contaminate water, food or feed by storage or disposal of Advantage® II.

  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from freezing. Keep out of reach of children.
  • Disposal and Container Handling: Non-refillable container. If empty: Do not reuse this container. Place in trash or offer for recycling if available. If partly filled: Call your local solid waste agency for disposal instructions. Never place unused product down any indoor or outdoor drain.

Advantage For Rabbits Vs Other Pesticides

Advantage Multi for Cats 9.1

Advantage can often be combined with other pesticides like permethrin or moxidectin.

But, you may want to speak with your vet about this as well, so you do not give your bunny too much medication at once.

Additionally, since topical treatments can cause some irritation in sensitive pets, check to make sure that a rash does not develop after treatment.

This is especially important if your bunny has ever experienced a skin condition before.

Please note that many other available over-the-counter flea treatments, such as Frontline, or Advantage knock-offs, are NOT safe for rabbits.

How Often Can I Use Advantage

The general recommendation for treatment is to apply 1 pipette of the appropriate size to your cat every 4 weeks. However, fleas sometimes live around our homes as well as on our pets. If this is the case, your cat might become reinfected soon after treatment and more frequent treatments might be needed. You can use Advantage as frequently as once a week. It is wise to talk to your veterinarian if your cat is regularly reinfected by fleas.

Most topicals are labeled for a once-monthly application. In order to truly get rid of a flea problem, you need to have your cat on flea prevention for 3-4 month minimum- but it is the opinion of most vets that year round prevention is important and warranted especially if your cat has had fleas once before.

This is usually a concern when rabbits groom themselves with their tongues.

One thing you can do is make sure your bunny is separated from any other rabbits, so they cannot groom each other.

If your rabbit does consume some of the imidacloprid, treatment is not usually required.

However, you may want to make an appointment with your veterinarian.

A medical professional can examine your rabbit for any signs of neurological issues.

The vet may also ask you to observe your rabbit at home.

A few possible signs of an overdose of Advantage include weakness, lack of coordination, muscle tremors, ear twitching, and vomiting.

How Do I Know If Flea Treatment Is Working

Flea products are necessary for your pets, and they come in such as flea collars, sprays, tablets, and spot-on. Speak with a veterinarian before choosing the right product because some can take up to three days while others will only need an hour!

How does it work? Imidacloprid is an ingredient in various effective products on the market today, including Advantage spot-on treatments and more that kill those pesky critters through contact. So they do not bite your dog or cat first! If you want a product that protects from fleas without biting them, other options such as oral tablets should work for you.

You can check whether or not the flea treatment is working by looking at the following four indicators.

    • You can still spot fleas on your pet
    • The itching does not stop
    • There are some bald spots on your pets skin
    • Your pet looks unwell .

If any of the above symptoms are still present, you may need to change the medication and take him to a vet.

Advantage flea medication is a medication made for dogs that prevents fleas, flea eggs, and lice. It will also kill any fleas, flea larvae, or lice currently on your dog. Advantage is applied as one dose to your dog’s skin. It’s easy to apply as long as you follow instructions carefully. Always consult with a veterinarian before trying any new medication on your dog.

    Apply The Correct Dosage

Advantage II flea drops are specifically formulated and tested for cats of certain weights. The full dose of the correct product needs to be administered on a monthly basis. The product can fail if the manufacturers instructions arent followed. Its not uncommon for owners to under-dose their pets as a result of splitting treatments between animals. Toxicity concerns can also result in under-dosing.

    Advantage Flea Treatment For Rabbits

There are two types of Advantage you can buy.

Advantage II for rabbits is what you will probably find.

You can purchase the topical treatment over the counter at your local pet store or directly from your veterinarian.

The product is labeled as a flea treatment for small cats, dogs, and rabbits.

According to the manufacturers product information sheet, the 40 mg treatment is the one best used for rabbits.

The appropriate dosage is included in a single .4 ml tube, which is meant for animals that weigh less than about 8.8 lbs .

How Does Advantage Ii For Cats Work

Advantage® II for cats combines two active ingredients:

    • Imidacloprid attacks the flea’s nervous system – paralyzing and ultimately killing it.
    • Pyriproxyfen is an insect growth regulator that kills flea eggs and larvae.

This combination plays a crucial role in treating and preventing infestations, because:

    • In an existing infestation, you might only be aware of the adult fleas, which only represent around 5% of the full infestation and are found on the pet.
    • Immature flea life stages which live in the pet’s environment consist of around 95% of the infestation and can be almost invisible to the naked eye.

When Should Advantage Flea Treatment For Rabbits Not Be Used

Flea treatments like Advantage should be used on rabbits that are at least 10 weeks old.

Ideally, your furry friend should be at least nine months old before flea treatments are given.

The nine month age mark is when your rabbit will become an adult.

Speak with an animal professional to see what age is best to start giving your rabbit Advantage.

Also, if your rabbit is pregnant, you may want to wait until after the kits are born before you treat the fleas.

While imidacloprid is not meant to be consumed orally, documentation states that Advantage can produce some birth defects when rabbits ingest the medication.

However, fleas can cause anemia, which can complicate a pregnancy, so make sure your veterinarian helps you understand the benefits and risks of flea control for rabbits Advantage.

Why Am I Still Finding Fleas On My Cat After Treatment

How does Advantage II work for cats?

Most flea treatments just kill adult fleas, but fleas can continue to emerge for months after you think an infestation has ended. When a newly emerged female flea finds a host, she can lay eggs within one day. Regular treatment is the key to keeping fleas at bay, but bathing your pet does nothing to prevent fleas.

Furthermore, can you use more than one flea treatment on a cat?

It’s not usually recommended to use more than one oral flea medication at the same time. However, Comfortis and Capstar can be combined. Another exception is Sentinel, which doesn’t kill adult fleas, so it can be combined individually with either Comfortis or Capstar.

Also, can cats still get fleas after being treated? Most flea treatments just kill adult fleas, but fleas can continue to emerge for months after you think an infestation has ended. Regular treatment is the key to keeping fleas at bay, but bathing your pet does nothing to prevent fleas. While many adults will wash away, the eggs will remain.

Keeping this in consideration, how often can I treat my cat for fleas?

Treating dogs and cats for fleasEffipro: A spot-on, which is applied every eight weeks for flea control or every four weeks for flea and tick control.

What happens if you overdose your cat on flea treatment?

Common signs of toxicity from flea products containing organophosphates are diarrhea, vomiting, difficulty breathing, small pupils, muscle tremor, weakness or falling over, and drooling. Organophosphate toxicity can be rapidly fatal, depending on the ingredients and dose the pet is exposed to.

How do you to get rid of fleas in the house?

  • Vacuum the floors, furniture, and anything your pet is around daily.
  • Seal and dispose of the vacuum bag afterwards.
  • Steam clean carpets to kill lingering fleas.
  • When Is Advantage A Suitable Flea Treatment For My Cat

Advantage kills adult fleas, so, like Frontline, is best suited to preventing new fleas from causing an infestation in your home, rather than suppressing an infestation that is already there. However, Advantage can be used more often, which can help overpower a flea infestation. It is best to discuss this with your veterinarian.

Advantage is a great choice of treatment if your female cat is nursing kittens as it will prevent fleas on the kittens as well as the mum.
