Figuring Out The Age Of The Kittens
If a scale is not readily available, here are guidelines to help determine the kittens age:
Under one week Eyes and ears are shut, skin is pink, and partial umbilical cord may be visible.
One week to 10 days Eyes are beginning to open, and ears are still flat. The kittens fit in the palm of your hand.
10 days to two weeks Eyes open more frequently and are usually a bright blue color. The kittens become more active and do a bit of crawling on their tummies, but most of their time is still spent eating and sleeping. They still do not have any discernible teeth.
Two to three weeks Eyes are completely open. Ears start to open around 14 days and should be fully erect by three weeks. Teeth should be visibly coming through their gums. The kittens start to be more ambulatory walking, albeit wobbly, commences.
Four to five weeks Kittens are playing a lot more and sleeping less they are able to leap and frolic. This is the age where the weaning and transitioning to solid food should begin, and the kittens will begin to use the litter box to eliminate.
Six to seven weeks Kittens are actively exploring their environment. This is a crucial time to start safely socializing and introducing the kittens to new experiences and friends.
Eight weeks Kittens should be fully weaned, using the litter box and ready to find their forever families.

Assess Their Grooming Habits
Cats are very meticulous when it comes to grooming, and most younger cats will keep their coats looking pristine. However, once cats reach a certain age, they might not be as thorough with their grooming as they once were.

Weight: Until hes five months old, most kittens gain one pound every month. Therefore, a four-pound kitten is probably four months old. Until they are 12 months old, kittens eat solid food designed for their growing needs.

According to PetMD, veterinarians often use a combination of weight and tooth status to estimate the age of kittens. The ASPCA agrees and outlines four ways to tell the age of a kitten.
If a kitten is healthy and well-fed, weight can be used as a good estimate of age. A kittens age in pounds is roughly equal to her age in months, up to about 6 months of age. A one-month old kitten should weigh about one pound, and a six-week-old kitten should weigh about a pound and a half. Kittens ready for adoption at 10-12 weeks should weigh 3.5-4 pounds. Another way to calculate age is by adding 100 grams per week, so a 10-week-old kitten should weigh around 1000 grams .
Weight can vary, of course, based on breed, size of the parents, and other factors. Interestingly, many large domestic cats, such as Maine Coons, reach their adult weight at a later age than smaller cats. They might not be a lot larger as kittens, but they keep growing until they are as old as four years, whereas most cats reach their full adult weight around one year.
Teeth can give more useful clues in determining age. Kittens get their first teeth at 2-3 weeks. These baby teeth are extremely tiny! Baby teeth keep coming in until 8 weeks. Around 8 weeks, a kitten will get her adult canine teeth.
Telling these first adult teeth from baby teeth can be tricky. Vets look for a specific groove present on the surface of adult canine teeth.

Newborn Kittens The First Week
Newborn kittens are born blind and deaf. Their ability to move is limited and they can only maneuver towards their mothers body to suckle and be warm. They cannot regulate their body heat on their own and rely on the mother for warmth, nourishment and protection. Kittens weigh between 80 and 170 grams at birth and they can double their body weight during the first week.

It has often been suggested that we simply need to multiply a cats age by 7 to get a comparative human age. However, this is very crude and does not take into account a number of aspects of how cats mature and age. A much more appropriate method is to take the end of the first year of the cats life to be equivalent to 15 human years, the end of the second year to be approximately equivalent to a 24-year-old person, and thereafter to consider each year of a cats life to equate to approximately 4 human years.
