The good news is that we can quickly find new owners for most animals we even manage to find good homes for older animals and those that come with baggage. But fear not, until a good home is found for your pet, you can rely on us to give him all the care and attention he needs.

If you want to learn more about rehoming your pet, read on.

Absolutely not! There are plenty of animals in the shelter that have nothing wrong with them, which is why most of them will be rehomed within just a few weeks.

There are, of course, also animals that need that little bit more TLC, but even these guys are more than worth the effort! Whether an animal is a problem or not rather depends on your personal perception. What one person sees as a problem might be seen as perfectly acceptable to someone else. We affectionately refer to animals that need extra TLC as misfits. If youre contemplating the adoption of one of our misfits, you certainly wont be left out on a limb, because well be glad to lend a helping hand with its care.

The animal has probably been rehomed or reserved.

You can create an account on our website, after which you can schedule an appointment.

Will A Mother Cat Abandon Her Kittens If You Touch Them

A mother cat will not abandon her kittens when a human touches them. Your scent may be left on the kittens fur but this wont make them unrecognizable by their own mother.

They usually dont like their newborns being touched so they become instantly protective when humans approach them.

Thats why its best to leave them alone until the kittens are ready to come out of hiding and socialize.

*kitten Application Process Update*

Sweetheart kittens ready for adoption!

Now that kitten season is in full swing, we are gearing up for one of our busiest times of the year. And with pandemic restrictions lifting, we are also changing our process, meaning we are now operating both in person meetings by appointment, and pick-ups.

To connect as many adopters and kittens as possible, you are now able to add your name to the list with one single application. This saves your place in line and when contacted, you will be invited in for an appointment to meet a selection of kittens.

Alternatively, we are still offering pick-ups, which has been popular and successful during the past year. If you select this option, you will be called and can select kittens via photos or virtual meetings. Once you have chosen the kitten, you will be given a time to come and collect your new family member. This has proven convenient for many clients who are able to speak with staff at a good time, select from the comfort of their own home, and then come pick up their kitten.

We ask that you please only apply for kittens when you are ready to adopt, as when contacted, appointments and pick-ups typically happen within a day or so.

Dakin Humane Societys One

The Dakin Humane Society in Springfield is looking to find homes for its one day uptick of 56 unexpected fury guests.

The humane society said in a release that a local animal lover in Franklin County became overwhelmed when just under 10 cats in their care began having litters eventually jumping to a total of 56 cats and kittens in a years time.

The animal lovers intentions were to care for vulnerable and stray cats that had made their way to their home, Dakin said.

Since giving the cats a place to stay, the person learned that Dakin was able to serve as a resource by taking the cats in, giving medical care which includes spaying and neutering and then setting them up for adoption.

This is a person who really wanted help, but didnt know where to get it, stated Moon Wymore, adoption center manager at Dakin. They likely would have gotten help much sooner if they had known about the available resources Dakin offers, and didnt have the transportation issues they have. They felt fortunate that we were able to go onsite and get the cats and kittens ourselves.

As a response to the uptick in cats and kittens at Dakin, select cats and kittens are now available on an adopt one get one free basis, Dakin said.

More information about the adoption process can be found here.

Go To The Nearest Rescue Organization

A better option than a shelter is going to a local rescue organization. These rescue groups are dedicated to saving various animals, including cats, from high-kill situations and crowded shelters.

They also require a small adoption fee, but this can easily be waived if you choose to be a foster parent for their rescue.

After the fostering period, they can give you the necessary paperwork for the official adoption of the cat. This also serves as an assessment if you are ready to be a cat parent or not.

Bearington: Ready For Bear Hugs

For any Star Wars fans, there is no need to look further than Bearington an unofficial Ewok and Wookie mix who has stolen the hearts of everyone in galaxies both near and far. A true Jedi of adorable puppy cuteness, the 9-year-old dog is certainly on the light side of the force.

Bearingtons journey to the Arizona Humane Society truly has not been an easy one. The German Shepherd mix was rescued by AHS Emergency Animal Medical Technicians in June after he was found wandering the sweltering streets of Phoenix as an injured stray. Matted and limping, sweet Bear would sweetly give his paw even as he was receiving medical treatment in the shelters animal trauma hospital.

After receiving a dental to take out some of his chipped teeth, this senior boy was also found to have arthritis and hip dysplasia but gets around very well and is a huge fan of going on gentle strolls. Bearington is truly a loving pup who enjoys the simple things in life including a nice cool tile floor to take a tiger snooze on and getting belly rubs . This adorable baby even received a star-filled visit from the Phoenix Rising recently and of course, showed them his paw skills!

  • You will have an opportunity to do a Meet & Greet with the pet.
  • If the pet is not claimed during the stray hold, the potential adopter who has pre-selected the pet is required to return to the shelter on the due out day or surgery due out day to process the adoption. If the adopter does not return to claim their new pet, the pet is then placed back up for adoption to the public.

Pros Of Getting A Free Kitten

Rescue kittens available for adoption at PetSmart

Lets start with the advantages. Here are some benefits of getting a free kitten:

    1. You can save a lot of money

Since you dont have to spend a single cent, you can save thousands of dollars usually spent buying a newborn kitten from a breeder.

You also dont need to pay for adoption fees required by shelters or rescues. Its the most practical option.

    2. You can allot more budget on cat supplies

With the money you saved, you can focus on purchasing high-quality items for your cats convenience. These include carriers, beddings, toys, cat trees, scratching posts, and grooming essentials.

You can also invest in a good pet insurance policy to ensure your cats health for the years to come.

    3. You dont have to wait for long approval periods

Adopting a cat from a rescue usually takes two weeks or more since they are run by volunteers. When you get a free kitten from a friend or other sources, you dont have to deal with these lengthy processing times.

You can instantly get your kitten and take it home. You can also save yourself from interviews, home visits, and tedious evaluations.

    4. You can have an instant companion

When adopting a free kitty, you dont need to be approved by rescue volunteers or be waitlisted by a breeder.

Once you settle the meetup schedule with the cat owner, you can take your pet home instantly.

Typically, this is also a paperwork-free transaction so you wont have to worry about time-consuming contract signing, settling of payment, etc.

    Contact Your Local Breeder

I know what youre thinking. Yes, you can only buy kittens from breeders and not ask them for free but hear me out.

Although very rarely, breeders may post an announcement about rehoming kittens that couldnt find new owners.

Its also possible that the breeder is suddenly stopping their operations and looking for people to adopt their last litter.

However, it still pays to be careful about unethical breeders masking their poor breeding practices by giving out free kittens.

What Is Cats Protection’s Adoption Fee

The adoption fee varies for different branches and centres. Some may have to pay more for veterinary treatment than others, and some have higher costs in looking after cats.

The adoption fee goes towards paying some of the cost of your cat’s health check, neutering and vaccinations.

If you are in close contact with a veterinarian in your city or town, you can ask him to refer you to clients that may have an extra kitten that they would like to give up for free.

If they say that there is no current information about this matter, you may leave them your contact details just in case they come in contact with someone who can help you.

You can even ask the vet assistant or other employees for a higher chance of getting a free cat.
