Is A Cat Right For You

Beautiful Ragdoll Kittens Ready NOW FOR SALE ADOPTION from Brandywine ...

While cats make purr-fect pets for some people, they dont for others. Cats are dependent on their owners for all their needs food, water, medical attention, exercise, shelter, and, most importantly, companionship. For many people, the years of unconditional love and devotion they receive from their furry kids far outweigh the daily responsibilities. But for others, their lifestyles make it impossible.

If you have decided that a feline would fit perfectly into your family, there are still things to consider

DO YOU WANT A KITTEN OR AN ADULT CAT?

This is especially important to decide before you get to the shelter. The attraction of tiny mewing kittens is hard to resist, but kittens need a lot of attention and will have to be house-trained. On the plus side, kittens adapt quickly to their surroundings. For many people, an adult cat is a wise choice, especially if they are at work all day or would not enjoy the boisterous antics of a kitten.

WHAT IS YOUR PREFERRED COAT LENGTH?

Do you want a cat with long, medium, or short hair? Long-haired cats require almost daily brushing to keep their fur from matting, so be prepared to spend regular time grooming these cats.

DO YOU WANT A MALE CAT OR A FEMALE CAT?

Both male and female felines can be equally playful and affectionate! Gender is based purely on personal preference.

YOU MAY BE THE PERFECT CAT OWNER IF YOU. . .

How To Choose A Reputable Breeder

Just like puppy mills, any animal in the pet trade can be produced in a mill environment. Cat and kitten mills often have horrendous conditions for both parents and kittens, leaving animals susceptible to disease and chronic health conditions. Kittens are also exploited for profit and robbed of vital developmental experiences, such as maternal bonding and socialization with cats and humans.

These kittens are often removed from their mothers early and offered for sale online and in pet stores. Kittens that dont sell may end up in testing facilities and laboratories. Aside from supporting these unethical practices and deplorable conditions, purchasing a kitten mill kitten can mean a life of emotional and physical problems.

Naturally, kitten mills dont advertise themselves as such. If you want to avoid getting a kitten mill kitten, look for reputable breeders, not pet stores or online classifieds. Reputable breeders care about their kittens wellbeing and the home theyll end up in, often asking potential owners to sign a contract with specific guidelines for spaying and neutering, breeding rights, declawing, and more. A good breeder will also wait until the kitten is emotionally and physically ready to go to their forever home, usually at 12 to 16 weeks, and will encourage potential owners to visit or inquire about the breeding conditions.

Small Miracles offers low-cost microchipping for your cat or dog. Cats and dogs adopted from the shelter can receive the microchip, implantation and lifetime registration with no annual fees for a one-time cost of $30. We also offer microchipping for all other animals in the community for $40.

Microchips do not hurt your pet, do not require surgery and never wear out. They are inserted with a routine shot between the shoulder blades. If your pet ever becomes lost and is brought to an animal control facility, shelter or veterinarian, your pet will be scanned for a chip. In combination with a collar and tags, microchips give a lost pet the best chance for a happy homecoming. Stop by during adoption hours on Saturdays or call 410-274-3530 to make an appointment on another day.

Why Foster Instead Of Having A Shelter

The animal lives in a home environment where they can feel safe and comfortable.

The foster caregiver can give plenty of attention to the fostered pet, and watch for problems with illness or behavior.

The foster caregiver can judge the needs and behavior of the individual animal – how they behave around other pets, adults, and children, how much space and exercise they need, what kind of permanent home would be best for them.

After we receive your application we will do a vet check and a home visit, just as we do for adoption applications. If approved, you will be asked to sign a Foster Agreement agreeing to abide by PAWs procedures and rules.

Hairless Sphynx kittens FOR SALE ADOPTION from Stockton Maryland ...

Step 1: Check out the adoptable cats, dogs and small companion animals listed on our website. The ones with a blue banner on the bottom of their photo indicate that they are in a foster home and are not in our shelter. Send an email to the email address listed in the animals bio to connect with the Foster Parent.

Step 2: Fill out our Foster Adoption Application with your information. To meet animals in foster homes, your application must be approved first. You will receive an email from our shelter or the foster when this step is complete. Please understand that this may take a few days and that filling out the application does not guarantee you will be able to adopt the animal.

Step 3: The animals foster will email you with a meet-up date, time and location of their choosing. If the animal is the right match for your family, the foster will take you through next steps, which include an adoption class and mutual going home date.

What else to expect: Our foster families are volunteers who take care of our animals while maintaining their own busy lives! This means that adopting through a foster home is often a longer process than visiting the animals in our shelter.

Become A Volunteer Or Foster Home

Do you love animals and want to get involved in rescue work? Small Miracles has several volunteer opportunities to fit various levels of commitment.

We are currently seeking volunteers to grow our foster home network. Fostering is a rewarding experience where you temporarily house animals in need in your own home until they are ready for adoption. Foster animals include pregnant dogs/cats, nursing dogs/cats and their litters, dogs/cats recovering from injuries or dogs/cats in need of socialization. We recommend having a separate area in your home to care for foster pets a spare bedroom, bathroom or laundry room works great. The shelter provides all medical care and dry food. Foster homes provide wet food, litter for the kitties, bedding and daily care of the animals. Supplies you purchase to care for foster animals may be tax deductible.

We are also seeking volunteers to walk dogs at the shelter.

Due to insurance regulations, volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

To fill out a foster/volunteer application, visit the Volunteer page.

Why Should You Adopt

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.
