North Shore Animal League America is a pioneer in the no-kill movement, implementing a no-kill policy to ensure that the animals we rescue receive the care and support they need. We are the worlds largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization, serving the New York tri-state area and all across the country and around the globe.

About North Shore Animal League America

North Shore Animal League America is the world’s largest no-kill animal rescue and adoption organization. Since 1944, we have been saving the lives of defenseless dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens over 1,000,000 to date. Our vision is for a future in which all companion animals find responsible, loving homes where they are free from abuse, hunger, fear, and loneliness and receive the care and respect they deserve.

Why Should You Adopt

Dog adoption and cat adoption saves lives. Adopt a dog or adopt a cat and you’ll have a friend for life.

What is the difference between adopting a dog, adopting a cat, adopting a kitten or adopting a puppy versus getting dogs for sale, cats for sale, puppies for sale or kittens for sale from a dog breeder or a cat breeder?

When someone is breeding puppies or breeding kittens, they are creating new dogs and cats who need homes. Some people are interested in a very specific breed of dog, cat, puppy or kitten and they think the only way to find that specific breed is to buy a dog for sale or buy a cat for sale from a puppy breeder or a kitten breeder. Yet animal shelters are filled with dogs and cats who must find homes.

So rather than buying a dog or puppy for sale from a dog breeder or buying a cat or kitten for sale from a cat breeder, we encourage people to adopt a dog, adopt a cat, adopt a puppy or adopt a kitten at their local animal shelter, SPCA, humane society or pet rescue group.

Celebrating Over 5000 Cats Spayed & Neutered In Warren County Ny

In May, 2022, The Adirondack Region Cat Adoption Center proudly announced that they have provided financial assistance, as well as helping facilitate transportation when needed, which has resulted in the local communities being able to spay and neuter over 5,000 felines since their launch in September 2015. Reaching this milestone achievement means the population and health of both companion and feral cats in Warren County is being well-managed and the number of animals euthanized is being reduced.

Purrfessional sports: Sneak peak at Kitten Bowl VIII

Located on the shores of Lake George, Warren County is home to approximately 66,000 residents. It is also the site of one of our newest and most exciting projects, the North Country Initiative , launched in September 2015. Working with the NCI team, weve developed a holistic program to address the complex problem of feline overpopulation in ways that are humane, educational, and lasting.

We not only have a no-kill rescue and adoption facility for felines, says Senior Vice President of Operations Joanne Yohannan. but we also support NCIs spay/neuter initiatives to plug the flood of new litters and also conduct local adoption events with NCI and other Warren County rescue groups. Equally important, says Joanne, are efforts to implement a series of programs that deal with the immediate needs of feral colonies and the many friendly cats who are ready to begin new lives in good homes.

I went to the animal league to adopt a cat. They kept us there fort over an HOUR interviewing us. They needed three references and we couldn’t use any of the people who came with us to look at the cats. . They take a FIFTEEN year history. Where you work, what hours, If you rent or own. What pets you’ve had, etc…After OVER an HOUR they told us to go outside and wait in our car “or about an hour and a half” while they check our references. Then they denied us because previous cats were allowed in the backyard with the family, and they have a strict indoor policy. We have been good pet owners all our lives and have provided loving homes to both cats and dogs. who lived. long happy lives.SHAME ON THE NSAL for 1) denying excellent. pet owners. 2) wasting our time when they KNEW they were denying us 3) wasting donor’s money and resources by conducting LENGTHY interviews even when they have determined they will deny.
