Clean fresh oil spills

If you have an oil spill on your driveway or garage floor, cover it up right away with a layer of cat litter. The sooner you do this the better, but its still helpful on older spills too. Beside above, what chemicals are in cat litter? Today, roughly 60% of the cat litter sold in the U.S. is of the clumping variety, and most of it is made from bentonite clay. How Does Clumping Litter Work

The clay particles absorb the moisture when your cat urinates or defecates in the clumping litter. These particles then start to bind together, forming clumps of solid waste.

I realized that clumping cat litter made my work easier. Instead of cleaning the entire cat litter box, I just scoop out the solid clumps leaving the clean litter behind.

The significant distinction between non-clumping clay litter vs. clumping litter is that the latter forms clumps of solid waste in contact with moisture.

Its worth noting that clay makes both clumping and non-clumping cat litters.

Due to its efficiency in absorbing moisture, clumping cat litter is sometimes used to soak up oil spills in the garage.

Reason #: Clay Decreases Your Disposal Options

Essentially, there are two ways to get rid of spent absorbent materials: landfilling and incinerating. Land disposal can introduce Resource Conservation and Recovery Act liability, and thats just about all you can do with clay. Absorbent mats, socks and pillows can often be incinerated or become part of a fuels blending program that uses industrial waste to generate heat and other forms of energy. The residual ash is often used to make concrete, limiting a waste generators future liability.

Because it is a rock, clay has a very limited fuel value and cannot be incinerated, decreasing disposal options. Polypropylene mats have a high fuel value, with less than 1% ash, making them an excellent choice for incineration. And because theyre non-biodegradable, they also help to prevent leaching in landfills.

Types Of Clumping Cat Litter

There are two types of clumping cat litter:

  • Clay-based clumping cat litter
  • Silica gel-based clumping kitty litter

Clay-Based Clumping Kitty Litter

This is the most common type of clumping cat litter made of bentonite clay, a natural absorbent. Clay-based clumping kitty litters are usually more affordable than silica gel-based ones.

The main advantage of using clay-based clumping cat litter is its effectiveness in trapping odors. It can also absorb a large amount of urine and feces by forming tight clumps.

However, the downside of traditional clay litter cat litter is that its dusty and messy. The dust from the clay can irritate your cats respiratory system and cause health problems.

If your cat has respiratory system issues like asthma, use dust free cat litter.

Silica Gel-Based Clumping Litter

This clumping cat litter is made of silica gel, a synthetic absorbent. Silica gel clumping cat litters are more expensive than clay-based ones, but they offer many benefits.

This clumping kitty litter is dust-free, so it wont irritate your cats respiratory system. Therefore, its the best crystal cat litter.

Silica crystals are also effective in converting cat feces and urine into clumps.

The main disadvantage of silica gel clumping cat litter is that it tracks a lot. The small beads can stick to your felines paws and be carried out of the box.

You may need a trackless cat litter to prevent frequent cat tracking in the house.

Scratch Off Spray Paint

Spray paint can be extremely difficult to remove, especially from paved surfaces. So, if you find yourself needing to remove spray paint from the sidewalk, you may need some help from cat litter. Just grab some litter and a scrub brush to get started.

First, youll want to clean the concrete as best as possible, by using a strong soap solution, a broom, and water. Once all the dirt has been removed, you can start getting to the paint. Make a paste of kitty litter by mixing it with water in a one-to-one ratio.

Apply the paste to the concrete. Rub it in gently with a scrub brush, especially if its a rough concrete surface. Then, after its been sitting for a six to eight hours, use the scrub brush again, this time scrubbing hard. Rinse away the litter, then repeat as needed until all the paint has been removed.
