Monterey Medley is a flaked fish in a fish broth. The primary ingredient in this food is fish broth, which is considered a beneficial ingredient for cats. Skipjack tuna and mackerel are the next ingredients on the list.
Although we often associate cats with eating fish, it isnt that great a food source for the species. Fish is lacking in thiamine, which is essential for cats. This has been added to the food and can be seen in the ingredients, listed as thiamine mononitrate, but you should avoid feeding cats fish too often. Also high in the ingredient list of this food is potatoes, followed by sunflower oil. Neither of these ingredients is considered species-appropriate. Cats would not eat these ingredients in the wild and potatoes are high-glycemic ingredients.
Although sunflower oil is added as a beneficial fat source, animal fat would have been a preferred and healthier source.
Earthborn Holistic Grain Free Cat Food Review
05/05/2022 Consider this a cautionary alert. Earthborn issued a voluntary recall in 2021 which was investigated by the FDA. The FDA has now terminated the recall alert, but a list of recalled batches can be found here.
The recall is in relation to elevated levels of aflatoxin, with a particular reference to corn.

This review is for the Grain Free Wild Sea Catch recipe from Earthborn. They also offer a chicken-based Primitive Feline and a lower protein/lower fat Meadow Feast which is a lamb recipe. All recipes are as good as this one, so it depends on what suits your requirements.
Ill start by pointing out the protein level in Wild Sea Catch is an astonishing 44%. This is the highest level of protein Ive seen in a dry cat food available in Australia, and I consider that a good thing. A cats natural diet is predominantly protein, so this food is in good keeping.
The top two ingredients are both named fish meals, salmon and herring, which will constitute most of the protein in the food. Its a really nice combination to see. Theres also chicken meal and turkey meal in the food which really gives this a fishy/meaty punch.
I consider this a 5 star food, one of the best available in Australia. Recommended.

What Fillers Are Added
Even the high-quality grain-free cat foods sometimes add fillers like potatoes and green peas. If your cat is not especially sensitive, these foods are acceptable and may even add some nutrition. While the information on whether Earthborn Holistic takes part in Animal Testing was hard to track down, we have managed to find out some information.
Earthborn Holistic states that they do not test on animals in laboratories. Instead, when they are launching a new product line and need AAFCO feeding tests to ensure that the recipe in question is nutritionally complete and feeds well, they complete feeding trials at a farm with an in-home atmosphere, which is non-invasive, nonlethal, and cage-free.
They state that all animals are humanely treated. Earthborn Holistic also participates in feeding trials with their own pets as a way of showing their commitment to the humane treatment of animals.
The above information is a strong positive and notable improvement on many of their competitors who do participate in animal testing.
