Dewormed Cat: How To Deworm A Cat Natural Remedies

How to Deworm Cats Naturally with Diatomaceous Earth

Are you having a dewormed cat. Deworming your cat is one way to ensure the health of the animal and more importantly that of your family. Since parasites can be transmitted from humans to animals it is important to avoid infestation in your pet and never underestimate the importance of this preventive action which in turn may harm you also.

Cats are likely to catch worms even if they never leave an apartment. These worms cause serious and irreparable lesions in the digestive system that is to say the stomach and intestines. Worse there are parasites that are very dangerous because transmissible to humans like roundworms. Children are the most sensitive in case of non-compliance with hygiene rules.

Even if you feel that your house is clean and that no contamination will be able to touch your cat, remain vigilant because it happens that worms, larvae or eggs come for example to stick to the soles of your shoes and thus get into your house. This is enough to infest your pet. After ingestion, these larvae or eggs develop in the digestive tract. They grow in particular by feeding on the food consumed by the feline and also by his blood.

One of the most asked questions I get, is how do I worm my cat with diatomaceous earth?

It is an easy process and a bit different that most conventional treatments because diatomaceous earth works with physical action unlike chemicals. Traditional treatments using chemicals can lead to resistance where physical action won’t or in the event it did it would take years for the parasites to adapt to the abrasive action diatomaceous earth has. With that said let me explain in more detail, how it works, dosage and the safety of DE.

If diatomaceous earth is abrasive will it hurt my cat or kitten’s stomach?

No not at all, food grade diatomaceous earth has been ground down to a fine powder, this fine powder is harmless to us and our pets but deadly to insects and parasites. It has even shown to have a cleaning effect on the lower intestine. kinda like scrubbing the colon clean. A clean colon allows for more nutrients to be absorbed. There are many benefits to regularly feeding diatomaceous earth to your cat or kitten, not only to keep them parasite free.

Exactly how does diatomaceous earth kill the parasites?

Like stated above, it works with physical action, the abrasive nature of food grade diatomaceous earth will scratch up the outer layer of the parasite, this environment causes the parasite to die. It is important to get a good dose in your cat or kitten daily, the 7 to 10 days will pick up and shedding eggs.

Symptoms And Treatment Of Cats With Worms

It can be difficult to tell if your cat has worms . Kittens with worms may have diarrhea, slow weight gain and a potbelly. Infected adult cats may have dark tarry stools, vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss. However, both are just as likely to have no signs of their worm infection at all. If your cat has never been checked for worms, it’s an absolute must. You should also have a stool sample checked for any new cat brought into your home. Deworming is usually a standard part of the protocol for shelter cats, and young kittens are typically dewormed several times as they get worms from their mother’s milk and will pass them back and forth. Even if your cat has been treated for worms before, a reinfestation is possible at any time because treatment just kills the existing worms.

This is one case where you have to go to the veterinarian for help. She needs to diagnose the type of worm infesting your cat in order to prescribe the correct medication. Over-the-counter deworming medications often don’t have enough punch to knock out worms for good. No home or folk remedies have been shown to be both effective and safe enough to get the job done, either. An infestation that goes unchecked for months or even years robs your cat of vital nutrients. She will also be shedding eggs or spores and infecting other animals .

Among cats, intestinal roundworms are the most prevalent type of intestinal parasite. They may be found in cats of all ages and are most often picked up from an unsanitary living environment. You may find mature roundworms in your cats feces or vomit if the cat has a parasite infection. They will be white or light brown in hue, and they will be several inches in length at the most. Roundworm eggs are excreted in the feces and can survive in the environment for several years if properly handled.

If your cat already has contracted worms, veterinary diagnosis and a treatment plan are the only way to deworm your cat. But if you want to prevent your cat from getting worms, there are some guidelines to follow. Kornreich says that pet parents should practice good sanitation including cleaning litter boxes on a daily basis and disinfecting them weekly, avoiding overcrowding of cats and litter boxes, and asking your veterinarian to perform regular stool analysis as part of your cats routine wellness exams. Additionally, there are prescription and over the counter preventive worm medications that keep cats protected. Year-round preventative is the best way to protect your cat from worms, says Arndt. Even cats that stay inside are at risk of getting worms. Cat parents should talk with their veterinarian each visit about the best products to keep cats protected.

Gastrointestinal Parasites In Kittens By Dr Erica Ellis Dvm

What is the culprit? The most common organisms who infect the gastrointestinal tract of kittens include protozoa like giardia, tritrichomonas feotus, and cryptosporidium parvum. Worms like diplidium caninum are also possible cause of diarrhea, and weaned kittens are susceptible to ancylostoma tubaeforme and toxocara cati .How are different parasites transmitted?Protozoa are spread by infective feces that can contaminate food, water, or other objects that even a young kitten could lick. The queen may not be showing any symptoms despite a chronic infection, so do not rule this cause out even if the kittens mother is healthy. Tape worms are spread when kittens ingest fleas. Round worms or hook worms transmission requires ingestion of contaminated feces or of hosts ranging from rabbits to earthworms. As such, these parasites are less likely to infect neonatal and infant kittens but are still worth ruling out in older kittens. What symptoms will the kitten show?Protozoal parasites: Diarrhea, which can tend to be mucoid and foul-smellingHook worms: Malaise, poor weight gain, a distended abdomen, anemia, a rough hair coat, diarrhea, and blood in the stool

Round worms: Intermittent diarrhea, a distended abdomen, failure to gain weight despite ravenous appetite, possibly white, noodle like worms in the stool

Tape worms: You may see no symptoms, or you may see worms resembling rice grains in the stool

    Pumpkin Seeds Destroy Tapeworms

I’m sure you’re wondering how something as simple as pumpkin seeds can be effective against parasites. As it turns out, pumpkin seeds contain a compound that paralyzes parasites and helps the body to eliminate them. They are especially effective against tapeworms.

Pumpkin seeds are also very easy to use. You just have to grind some raw pumpkin seeds and then add 1/4 of a cup to your cat’s wet food. Make sure that you mix them well with the food, or your kitty might not be tempted to eat them. Continue this for at least a week and ensure that your cat has access to fresh water.

The Benefits Of Deworming Your Cat

Keeping your cat on a regular deworming schedule can help protect your pet.

    • Helps keep your cat healthy: Cats with worms may appear perfectly healthy on the outside, but on the inside, its a different story. Worms live in the intestines and feed on your cats nutrients or blood. In some cases, this can lead to weight loss, increased appetite, diarrhea, dry and coarse fur, and weakness. Severe infections can lead to anemia or a pot belly.
    • Helps prevent reinfection: Most dewormers work by paralyzing and killing the worms in your cat. Regular, continuous worming is vital to help remove any further worms your cat may pick up.
    • Helps protect yourself and your loved ones: Some worms, like roundworms, can pass to humans through contaminated soil or pet waste, and can cause damage to organs and the eyes. Although this is very rare, it can be serious especially for young children, leading to blindness in extreme cases. Deworming your cat can help lessen the chances of your family encountering intestinal worms.

    What Causes Worms In Cats

How to Deworm Your Cat Naturally

Let’s learn more about the different types of worms in cats and how cats get infected. That’s going to help you prevent a second infestation once you deal with the imminent crisis.

So, cats often get infected with:

    • Roundworms
    • Hookworms
    • Whipworms

Roundworms are the most common parasites in cats, and they are responsible for almost 75% of all worm infestations. Often kittens get roundworms from their mother when the mother cat hasn’t been dewormed properly before the birth.

Roundworms are 3-5 inches long, and they live in your cat’s intestines. As such, these worms steal your cat’s nutrients so that no matter how much your cat eats, she doesn’t put on weight. In addition to this, roundworms are highly contagious because your cat sheds infected eggs with her stool and could lead to intestinal blockage.

Tapeworms resemble a ribbon or a tape, and they are made of segments that break off when the worm matures. These segments are shed in the feces and look like grains of rice. Cats get tapeworms when they eat a host infected with tapeworm eggs such as a flea or a rodent.

Hookworms, as the name suggests, attach themselves to your cat’s intestines and feed off her blood. Since the larvae live in the soil, your cat might swallow it easily when she digs outside. Hookworm infestation is very serious since it might lead to anemia.

Whipworms, on the other hand, are relatively rare. They live in the large intestines and don’t cause any major health problems in cats.
