Now is the time to draw with thicker, darker and more defined lines. If youre working traditionally, swap to a thicker pencil and use more pressure. If youre working digitally, switch to a new layer while keeping previous layers on a lower opacity.

Refine the shapes of the eyes, mouth and nose . Add pupils to the eyes. Depending on the cat you may choose to sketch the eyes more narrow or more open. Don’t forget about the whiskers they make a huge difference!

Then Draw The Kittens Tail

On the lower bottom part of the kittens body, draw a long, fluffy tail. As you can see in the illustration, the tail is as simple as drawing a curved sausage.

However, you can draw the tail any way you like. You can make it as furry as you want it to be by adding large chunks of fur poking out all over the tail.

By Step Instructions For A Cat Face

1. Begin by drawing an oval to outline the cat’s face.

2. From each side of the oval, extend a long, curved line. At the bottom of the line, connect short, curved lines in a jagged zigzag pattern. This forms the cat’s cheeks, complete with tufts of fur.

3. Connect the tufts using a long, curved line, to completely enclosing the face. Notice the pointed bulge in the line indicating the chin.

4. On each side of the head, draw three curved lines extending outwards and meeting in a point – forming a curved triangle. This is the cat’s ear. Repeat on the opposite side.

8. Draw the nose and mouth. Begin by extending faint lines downward from the eyes. This outlines the snout. Connect these lines by enclosing a small, irregular shape, somewhat like a rounded, upside down triangle. Beneath the nose, draw two curved lines in the shape of a wide “W” to form the mouth. Above the “W,” draw dots to indicate the growth of whiskers. Add depth to the chin by drawing a small curved line beneath the “W.”

9. Extend long whiskers – long curved lines – from the dots on each side of the mouth. Add the texture of fur to the forehead and cheeks using short, curved lines that meet at jagged angles.

Draw The Bottom Part Of The Kittens Body

How to Draw a Kitten Super Easy

Draw a downward curved line to create the outline of the kittens back and bottom part. The back should be structured downwards, while the bottom should be curved like a half circle shape.

When drawn correctly, the outline should appear like a downward slope to make the kitten look like it is sitting down.

Simple Steps For Cat Drawings

1. Use reference photos.

You may have researched the anatomy of a cat, but youll still need to find some good reference photos. This helps you observe and mimic the body shape of a cat, even when its foreshortened. If you want to draw a realistic cat, use a photo for reference. But if you want to sketch a cartoon cat, look at art or illustrations to see how other artists have captured feline forms in a stylized way.

2. Sketch out the simple shapes.

After youve observed the reference images, draw the major shapes of the cat. Start with the cats head, and then move on to the body, front legs, hind legs, and tail. Its about breaking a subject matter down and building it back up in a meaningful way. And to achieve that, you need to simplify all that chaos, says Merien. For a cat, youre dealing with the fluffy fur and the perspective. So you need to build it back up in a way that your brain can understand.

When youve simplified the cats shape, you can get the gesture and positioning right without worrying about the complex details. Be sure to mark where the limbs and joints are, as well as the tail. Its not just about the individual shapes, its also about how those shapes connect to each other.

3. Finalize your line art.

4. Add detail and color.

Afterwards Draw The Kittens Eyes

Right above the nose, draw two upright oval shapes slightly apart from each other.

Then, within the eyes, draw another two tiny oval shapes. Shade the eyes side from the tiny dots inside the eyes to create an adorable glimmering eyes effect.

Dont hesitate any more facial features that you think would look awesome. You can even add eyelashes and whiskers if you like!

Finally, here is the most exciting partfilling in the colors for your awesome drawing! This is the part where you can show off your artistic skills and your ability to mix and match various colors.

Kittens come in a wide range of colors, with white, black, ginger, grey, cream, brown, cinnamon, and fawn being the most common. There are also some kittens with distinctive patterns on their skin, thus they typically have more than one color. This gives you a lot of options to color your kitten with!

Feel free to color your kitten drawing however you like and use any colors you prefer! And while youre at it, why not try experimenting with different coloring materials such as watercolor and brush pens as well?

Start With A Quick Stick

A simple way to better understand the movement and curves of cat anatomy is to watch a real cat in motion while you sketch it rapidly. Only sketch it in the stick-figure style of drawing as you see here. Try to draw your whole cat in about 10-20 seconds. It doesnt have to look realistic.

Scribble gesture drawing is the best place to start when you first learn how to draw. It can also be a great way to warm up before you do any drawing at all.

Scribble gesture is all about capturing the major energy of and getting to know the subject. Its also about knowing the movement and angles of the cats legs, spine, and position of the cats head. You can also learn about the balance of weight, the center of gravity, and where the weight of the paws are.

To complete this tutorial, you dont need much cat anatomy knowledge.

Just look at the drawing and ask yourself where the line is vertical, horizontal, or on an angle. You will also need to ask yourself which direction a curve is traveling in. Either in or out.

Draw The Cat Ears As Two Triangle Shapes

In this step, you will draw two triangles ready for adding curves to draw the ears later.

Start your triangle on one side, by drawing a vertical line directly upwards from the outside of the center of the circle and stop at the full height of the central vertical guideline. Do this on both sides of the cat head circle.

Tip: Keep this line parallel to your center vertical guideline.

Next, you can complete each triangle by drawing a diagonal line down from the tip of the triangle ear shape to meet the circle. Do this on both sides. This will create a triangle on each side of the head for the cat ears.

Toes And Final Editing

After drawing in the toes, you’re technically done with drawing your cute, little kitty cat cartoon. But, since I take a photo and put mine up online, I went back over it with a heavier ink pen so it reproduces better.

Then I shot a pic with my cell phone and used the BeFunky app to crop it and adjust brightness and contrast. Lastly, I finished up with the Pinhole filter, followed by the Orton filter, and that’s it! Not bad for a iPhone app!

You can color it in if you want too. Have fun!

I should mention here that learning to draw ANYTHING takes practicelots of practice. I’ve been doing this since I was a kid . I’ve drawn thousands of eyeballs and noses and mouths and eyebrows and whatever else over the years.

The best tip I can give you is this: ALWAYS DRAW IT AGAIN!

Even after all these years, the first time I draw something new, it’s crap. I’ve been drawing this same cat in this same pose maybe close to 100 times. Seriously. There’s all kinds of variations to play around with, and even if you simply try to draw it exactly the same way, it’ll look better.

So draw it again.

Thanks for hanging out with me! I hope you learn to enjoy drawing this kitty as much as I do.
