You Feed Your Cat Immediately After You Wake Up

Why Does My Cat Wake Me Up At 4am?! | Strange Cat Behavior Explained

Do you sleepily dish up the cat food mere minutes after rising? If so, she may be waking you to invoke the feeding process. Go about your morning activities for a while before feeding or lavishing attention on the cat, suggests Cox.

Fend off her hunger by giving her a healthy snack before bedtime, such as a high-protein treat. Or ask your vet about dividing her daily food into smaller meals, spread throughout the day, to help her feel more satisfied.

If your cat is finicky for fresh water, indulge her with a self-filling water dispenser.

Does My Ageing Cat Need To Be Comforted

When an older cat suddenly starts meowing at night, you should pay attention. A change of behaviour should never be taken lightly. Without giving the cat any attention, for example under the guise of a trip to the washroom or the kitchen for some water, check on the cat discretely to make sure its okay. That way, you can take care of the cat if something is wrong, or keep ignoring the cat and go back to bed if everything seems normal.;

If your senior cat keeps meowing for no reason, we recommend having it checked by your veterinarian; several medical conditions may cause meowing at night and other sudden nightly behaviours.;

In conclusion, when your cat meows at night, you must ignore it completely and perfectly in order not to encourage the behaviour. Keeping the cat busy at night may prevent it from getting hungry or finding creative ways of getting your attention. If your companion is an older cat, make sure to rule out any health concerns. Your Cat Is Seeking Attention

Do you know that adult cats never meow at one another? They use body language to communicate.

Only kittens meow to their mothers to express their needs. As such, its curious that cats use their voice to communicate with us.

So, whenever your cat meows in the morning, they might be seeking attention.

Even though cats play it cool, they need human contact and care as much as any other pet.

Somecats might not like to be held, but they will want you to dote on them.

If you tend to get home late and cant pay your cat a lot of attention, your feline might wake you up in the morning so that you can make up for it.

Thats one of the reasons why your cat is so affectionate in the morning. The other one is that your kitty is hungry and trying to curry favors.

Why Does My Cat Wake Me Up Nature

Why Does My Cat Bite Me When I Sleep? Is Your Pet Turning ...

The house cat is true to its ancestry. Todays;cat is descended from the ancestors of wildcats . Wildcats fed on prey that was usually;active in the dawn and dusk hours. Therefore, wildcats had to be up and active at daybreak too. Many people dont realize this and they mistakenly believe that cats are nocturnal, meaning that they sleep during the day and are awake at night. This belief may arise from the fact that cats sleep 16 hours or more each day and are often seen taking naps during the daylight hours. However, in reality, cats are crepuscular, which is a very fancy word to say that cats are active during the dawn and dusk hours just like the wildcats. That is why kitties are often awake during the very early hours and are ready to eat or to play while their human only wants to sleep just a little longer.

How To Stop Your Cat From Waking You Up At 4am

Is your cat meowing at night? Heres how to put a stop to nighttime meowing

Cat waking you up at 4am? Youre not alone. For many cat parents, alarm clocks are completely unnecessary because they can depend on their cat waking them up, demanding to be fed. This routine is made even more frustrating when there is already food in the bowl.

If you can count on your cat waking you up at dawn, I am here to help you sleep in.

Why do so many cats perform this pre-dawn routine? Because nature hardwired them that way to survive. Cats are crepuscular hunters. That means they are innately motivated to hunt when their prey is most availabledawn and dusk. Your cat did not get the memo that this survival instinct is not necessary in your condo where the food bowl is never empty. With food in the bowl, why does your cat feel the need to wake you to add more?

For a cat, a meal is not just about the food, its about the hunt. To survive in nature, one cat has to hunt, catch, kill, and eat eight to12 mice or small prey every single day. This predatory sequence of hunt, catch, play/kill, and eat a tiny meal is required for satisfaction. So, when the predawn call to the hunt comes, the kibble in the bowl holds no appeal. Your cat satisfies the predatory sequence by waking you and getting you to top off the dish. Only then is the meal worth eating.

Cat Wakes Me Up Forfood The Morning Solution

If you are like me your cats have feeding times based aroundyour schedule. I like to wake up at 4am, which is when I must get up for work, and once I am ready I give my cats a wet food before I head out the door.

Well, this was all great.

Until that first weekend hit where I finally got to sleepin. But it wasnt much past 4am before I was woken up by a very familiar Meowfollowed by a yowling!

Why? Well because it was feeding time! And my cats did notunderstand why the normal 4am meal was not occurring.

If this situation sounds very familiar, then you cannotblame your cat for waking you up. You, like me, created this behavior.

But, alas this is the first easy fix.

We start by deconditioning your cat to morning wet food atungodly hours of the morning. If you have to leave for work early, and no oneelse is there to feed the cat, then you will need to free feed.

Let this go for two weeks. Your cat will hate you duringthis time. But stay strong!

They can still have wet food just at normal hours when youwould not mind if they woke you up.

Once a few weeks have gone by, or when you get to a weekend.Begin by teaching your cat new wet food feeding times.

I like times around 9am, since I am always awake by thistime.

It will not take very long for your cats to realize thatthey need to be awake, and at the cabinet that the food is kept in by that time.Took about three days for my cats, yours might be a bit longer. So just stickwith this!

How To Stop My Cat From Waking Me Up In The Morning

So, you want to know how to stop your cat from waking you up at 4 am in the morning.

Well, I can tell you that its not going to be easy because youve made one mistake.

If your cat wakes you up at night or early in the morning every day, youve reinforced this behavior. How?

Youve gotten out of bed, and youve fed your cat or paid them attention. After all, you want to get back to sleep as soon as possible.

Cats are very good at training their owners, and they understand that if they meow or scratch the door long enough, youre going to get up. And they can be quite stubborn.

So, what can you do? Here are some tips:

  • Dont ever get up to feed your cat when they meow.
  • Get some blinds to block the sunlight so that your cat cant tell its morning.
  • Tire your cat during the day so that they sleep soundly at night. Provide enough physical and mental stimulations, or your cat will wake you up with their shenanigans at night.
  • Feed your cat before you go to bed or use anautomatic feeder for the night.
  • Pay attention to your cat only when theyre silent.

Im not going to lie. Its a nightmare to make your cat stop waking you up in the morning when youve reinforced this behavior for years.

Youll have to lie in bed and let your cat meow until they understand that youre not getting up.; It can take months.

So, my advice is to be patient, dont spoil your cat, and avoid reinforcing any behavior that you dont want your kitten to repeat.
