Which Pets Are More Adaptable Felines Or Canines
No one likes change, but dogs seem to cope much better in new situations, such as when theyre introduced to new pets or people in the house.
This is probably because dogs tend to bond with people more than they do with places.
And for that reason, most dog facts show, they dont mind moving to a new house or even traveling long-distances.
As long as theyre with their owners, pups are over the moon. Of course, some canines might display anxiety, but chances are, if youre calm and collected, your pooch will be too.
Changes in the environment dont go down well with cats. Felines are not as trusting, and they need a lot more time than dogs to adapt to new surroundings.
Training Dogs Is Easier:
One reason why dogs prove popular is that they train easier compared to cats. Dogs can be taught tricks, manners, behaviors, and commands. You can do this for protection and safety, obedience, and even simple amusement. Dogs actually love training because they love having tasks and being part of a pack. Cats can be trained some, but once they bore theyll swat the treat out of your hand and run off with it.
Cats Don’t Take Up Much Space
If you’ve ever tried to share a bed with a golden retrieveror even a tiny dogyou know they take up a ton of space. Between their size, their love for stretching out into everyone’s personal space, the room they need to play and exercise, and their stuff , dogs need a solid amount of room to live a happy, healthy life.

Why Do Cats And Dogs Eat Grass
You might see your pets eat some pretty disgusting things, and grass wont be the worst of them.
One theory as to why pets eat grass is that theyre trying to get rid of intestinal parasites. Another is that eating grass and various plants will help them vomit.
Whatever the reason, its more common for dogs to eat grass than it is for cats.
Still, even if you only have cats, you should be careful about using fertilizers and pesticides in your gardenor at least try to use non-toxic ones.
Make Sure The Space Is Safe And Cat
Keep doors and windows closed and make sure there aren’t any crawl spaces or holes where they can escape to that you can’t access.
If your cats go outside, make sure there aren’t any poisonous plants in the backyard. You can get a full list of plants that are harmful to kitties from the ASPCA list. Also, make sure you keep him or her indoors for at least two weeks so that your home is familiar to them. After two weeks, take your cat outside with you and let it explore a bit. After ten minutes or so, take him or her back inside. Each day increase the time until the kitty feels safe and knows the area. Also, make sure that your cat is properly tagged with your new address and phone number.
No matter what kind of companion animal you have, adjusting to a new home is tough. Knowing your animal and their personalityconfident, social, or shywill help you determine what their individual needs are.

Do Cats Or Dogs Live Longer Lives
Life expectancy in dogs has a lot to do with their breeds but overall, cats win this one. Science Magazine notes that cats live an average of 15 years, compared with about 12 years for dogs. The solitary nature of cats tends to keep them safe from infectious diseases not to mention the life-saving weaponry they come equipped with. Cats also havent had as much human intervention in terms of genetics as dogs havebreeding over generations to develop certain characteristics we humans find desirable. Many times, breeding leads to health problemsthink breathing issues in Bulldogs, hip dysplasia in German Shepherd Dogs, and cancer in Boxerswhereas most cats have evolved naturally, keeping the traits that work best for them and shedding those that dont.
Dogs Vs Cats Who Is Easier To Train
Even cat lovers will agree that dogs are much easier to train than felines.
Being pack animals, dogs are used to following a leader, which makes obeying commands from the alpha something theyre born with.
Also, dogs are so eager to please their owners that theyll take in all the training and reinforcement commands you teach them.
That being said, not all dogs are the same. Some breeds, like German Shepherds or Poodles, are more trainable than others.
One of the best-known facts about dogs is that they can have jobs.
Pups can learn how to do more than just sit or roll over. In addition to hunting, retrieving, herding, drug-sniffing, and even fishing, canines are also used as guide dogs for people with disabilities.
Some even work for police officers or are employed by the army.
Cats, on the other hand, are their own boss. Its not that cats cant be trained, its that they dont want to be.
There are some things a pet cat can learn, like how to respond to its name or even how to walk on a leash, but it takes a lot more work and even more patience than it does with dogs.
The approach to training is different too.
Dogs can be trained in groups and usually will learn new commands in a short time.
Cat training sessions should be shorter but more regular. Felines have longer memories than dogs, so if you try hard and long enough, you might teach your cat some tricks.
One thing both dogs and cats have in common is their love of treats as a sign of a job well done.

Do Cats Or Dogs Have Better Memories
Heres a place where science fails us as theres just not a lot of information out there. Its understandable being that you cant really measure things like memories in someone who cant tell you about them. But any of us who have spent time with dogs and cats know that they form both long and short-term memorieswhether its remembering where a treat was buried or associating a person or place with a bad experience. PetMD details some interesting facts about memory in dogs and cats that helps explain what we know but overall, its more of a guessing game.
Who Lives Longer Cats Or Dogs
Another win for felines. Domestic cats usually live 1219 years, whereas dogs have an average lifespan of 8 years.
Many factors determine how long pets live.
With dogs, it mostly depends on their size. For instance, a Great Dane can live up to 8 years, while a Miniature Poodle can live for as long as 15 years.
With cats, it varies depending on where they live.
Outdoor cats have a much shorter lifespan than domestic felinesthey usually live for fewer than 5 years.

The Cat Family Has Historically Been Much Better At Surviving Than The Dog Clan
Find your bookmarks in your Independent Premium section, under my profile
Its the debate that has long divided animal lovers. Now scientists have confirmed that cats really are better than dogs at least from an evolutionary perspective.
A groundbreaking study of 2,000 ancient fossils reveals that felids the cat family have historically been much better at surviving than the canid dog clan, and often at the latters expense.
The research finds that cats have played a significant role in making 40 dog species extinct, outcompeting them for scarce food supplies because they are generally more effective hunters. But researchers found no evidence that dogs have wiped out a single cat species.
The dog family which includes the wolves from which todays domesticated dogs are descended originated in North America about 40 million years ago and reached a maximum diversity around 20 million years later, when there were more than 30 species on the continent. At that point, the cat family arrived from Asia.
The arrival of cats to North America had a deadly impact on the diversity of the dog family. We usually expect changes in climate to play the overwhelming role in the evolution of species. Instead, competition among different carnivore species proved to be even more important for the dogs, said the reports lead author, Dr Daniele Silvestro, of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland.
Pet Training: Cat Vs Dog
When it comes to cat vs. dog training, dogs are generally the easier of the two to train. A dog’s pack mentality makes him ready to follow a leader and makes him generally more obedient by nature. Typically, dog training is a process of teaching and reinforcing commands that help you communicate your desires to your dog. Dogs are so eager to please that they’re happy to meet those desires. However every dog is different, and some breeds have temperaments and learning aptitudes that take more readily to training than others.
Cats can be trained, but not as thoroughly as dogs. It requires a lot of patience and consistent practice to get past their willful nature. With cats, it’s best to focus training on establishing boundaries.
When it comes to house training, cats have the advantage over dogs. Cats use the litter box instinctively. It may only take showing them where the box is one time. If a cat is slow to catch on to using the litter box or appears to forget later on, this is often a sign of an underlying health issue, and you should consult your veterinarian.
Dogs, on the other hand, can be a lot tougher to potty train, especially puppies. Teaching them where it is and isn’t acceptable to go usually takes a lot of repetition and positive reinforcement.

Dogs Have More Nerve Than Cats
Neuroscientist Suzana Herculano-Houzel studies animal intelligence by digging deep into gray matter. She liquifies animal brains to count their neurons. And what shes found is that dogs have twice as many neurons as cats.
Neurons process and send information throughout the central nervous system. Herculano-Houzels team tallied the number of neurons in the cerebral cortex the wrinkly outer layer of the brain of various species. The brains belonged to eight carnivorous mammals: cats and dogs, along with ferrets, mongooses, raccoons, hyenas, lions and brown bears. The study was published in late 2017 in the journal Frontiers in Neuroanatomy.
These were brains of already dead animals donated by a zoo, a forest preserve, a wildlife rehab facility and several pet owners.
You Don’t Have To Walk Them
Whenever dogs need to relieve themselves, you have to take them outside. Yes, you can train them to need this only at certain hours of the day, but still, it’s a pain. Cats will just tend to a litter box on their own volition. A cat and its owner mostly stay out of each other’s bathroom businessand that’s truly one of the sweetest reasons why cats are better than dogs.

Cats Sit All Over World Map Dogs Run Off With America Oceania
Country-for-country, the cats have it. We found 91 countries with more cat posts than dog posts on Instagram, and just 76 the other way around. Cat-lover territory includes the huge territories of Canada , China , and Russia .
The dogs take more continents, though. Dog posts outweigh cat posts across North and South America, Oceania, and Africa, while the cats take just Europe and Asia. The most fervently dog-loving city is Morpeth in North East England. Morpeth has the highest number of dog posts among the 58 cities that are 100% pro-dog. Hoofddorp in the west of the Netherlands is the most emphatically pro-cat city.
Owning A Cat Is More Affordable
Over the course of their lifetimes, cats are generally more affordable than dogs. While buying a specific breed of cat can be expensive, generally, adoption fees are lower for kittens and cats than they are for puppies or dogsparticularly during kitten seasons or times when the shelter has a major influx of kittens. Some shelters may even waive their fees or offer a two-for-one deal on pairs of kittens.
Once you own the pet, there are plenty of expenses you will have to incur, from supplies to caretakers. Because dogs have a tendency to destroy their toys, they have to be made from much tougher materialsor replaced often. Cat toys are relatively cheap to buy and even cheaper to DIY.
Plenty of exercise is absolutely vital to a dog’s health, but getting two or three walks a day can be tough when you have a full-time job. Considering the average dog walker charges $15 to $20 for a 20-minute walk, costs can add up quickly. Cats, however, are perfectly content lounging, napping, and playing with their toys at home alone while you work the day away. It’s even better if you have two kitties since they’ll keep each other entertained.

Dogs Just Wanna Have Fun

There’s only so much play you can do with your cat. Many cats love to play with string toys and they’ll bat their little cat ball toys around, but it’s almost like they’re humoring you. They can play on their own, not just with people.
Dogs absolutely love to play, and it’s often interactive play that they want–especially with you. You can play fetch with a ball or a disc. You can enjoy an exciting game of tug-of-war. You can play chase in the yard. If your dog gets along well with other dogs, you can even set up a doggie “playdate” with another pup. Just make sure both dogs are healthy and will get along.
Behavior Is One Of The Main Differences Between Dogs And Cats
During the day, your dog is active and playful. While he may take an occasional nap, he prefers being at your side. A cat, on the other hand, sleeps away much of the daylight hours, preferring to jump into turbo time right before you jump into bed. Cats are more playful in the evenings, but there are many cats who make time for their pet parents during the day. A routine helps get your cat more on your schedule.
One major difference between dogs and cats are the way they sound. Your dog will bark, howl or growl, whereas a cat meows or snarls.
When giving warning signals, cats will often arch their back and the hair on their back may lift. Dogs will show warning by baring teeth and staring. Both animals will usually make sounds, such as growling or snarling, when warning another animal or human to keep their distance.
Behavior is tough to compare too closely, because, like humans, dog and cat behavior and personality can vary so greatly. Some cats are extroverts other dogs are introverts. Species and breed only determine behavior so much. The rest is left to their individual personality and the environmental factors that they are raised in every day.

When deciding to get a pet, it may be a difficult decision about whether to choose a cat or a dog. Although they are both furry friends, the two types of animals are very different from each other. Cats have many favorable traits, including their ease of care, cleanliness, and adorable antics, making them a wonderful pet for any family.
A Dog Is A Mans Best Friend:
Have you watched the movie, John Wick? If you have, then you would probably understand how much a man can love a dog, he can even kill people for him.
A dog is said to be a mans best friend and its not just a saying, there are many other animals to whom a person can get really attached, but dogs? Man, they are simply the best.
A dog is loyal, a dog is active and helps keep you active as well. On the other hand, Cats are quite lazy in this regard, cause they can literally stay at home all the time and do nothing.
They only care when it suits them, like when they are feeling hungry or when they have to pee and their pot is dirty, and thats it. Otherwise, they dont even care about your existence.

Dog Versus Cat: Feeding Habits
Although both adult cats and dogs should be fed once or twice a day, canines eat considerably more.
A medium-size dog should eat around 1 cup of food, while felines eat just under 1 cup a day.
The feeding habits of kittens and puppies also differ. While kittens are fed twice a day, puppies eat three to four times in a day, usually half a cup per feeding.
With that said, cats take the medal with less money spent on food than dogs.
