How To Clean Cat Urine Out Of Anything

How to remove cat pee from clothes with My Pet Peed – Pet Urine Remover

If you have a cat, you may know how bad cat urine smells, and how unpleasant it is to have on your bed, carpet, sofa, or clothes. You may have tried before to remove the stains and/or odors without success. There are many commercial cat urine cleaners, but not all of them work. You might have thrown things away because you think that you just cant get the smell out. Thankfully, there are ways to remove all evidence of cat urine from carpets, furniture, and clothing.

First of all, I must give a warning. NEVER use a steamer on cat urine that has not been treated with a product. It will bake the urine into the surface and make it harder to remove. For furniture and carpet, I tell you to do a colorfastness test. This means testing the surface to see if the spray permanently changes the color of the surface. You can do this by spraying once in an unnoticeable area and dabbing it up immediately. Check the spot you tested 20 minutes later. If it is lighter, do not use the product over the entire surface.

Ill start with cleaning urine out of furniture, carpets, or mattresses. These spots are the hardest places to clean urine from, because you cant just simply put them in the washer. The key to cleaning these surfaces is not a store-bought urine cleaner. I have had the most success with a cleaner I can make myself.

To make this cleaner, you will need:An empty spray bottleBaking sodaCitrus Pine Sol

Use An Enzyme Cleaner:

Enzyme-based cleaners, such as Urine Gone, are biological compounds that react with fats, oils, and proteins. The enzymes break them down completely, getting rid of stains and smells. These cleaners are ideal for a pet household because theyre non-toxic and biodegradable. Since the process is biological, the cleaner does require time to fully break down the stain and can take up to a couple of days , but it will completely remove the issue.

Spray the cat urine stain and the area immediately surrounding the stain with the enzyme cleaner. If the urine was on hardwood or an area that shouldnt get wet, there are also powdered enzyme cleaners that can work just as well. Let it sit for at least 20 minutes and follow the cleaners instructions for cleanup. Make sure to test a small area of your clothing, carpet or wood flooring first.

How To Use Essential Oils To Deter Cat From Peeing

To use essential oils for deterring feline urination, you only need four items, including:

  • Spray bottle
  • Water
  • Measuring cup

Simply add around 20 drops of the oil for each cup of water. Feel free to make a larger batch if needed. Shake well in the bottle, as the oil will separate from the water. It will need to be mixed each time thoroughly before use. Spray the areas where the cat has historically or commonly peed, such as:

  • Near the laundry basket
  • On bedding
  • In the closet

Its important not to soak these areas or your clothing you don’t want too much oil to get onto the clothing and cause a stain, and excess oils can be harmful to your cat if they get onto the skin. You should spray enough for a moderate and lingering scent without obviously drenching the clothes.
