Arm & Hammer Slide Multi

Slide Multi-Cat is designed to come out of the box with minimal effort, so if you get frustrated by stuck-on clumps on the bottom and sides of the pan, this might be the litter for you.

This makes cleaning the box out much easier than it would normally be, so hopefully, it will stop being a chore you dread to do. It can also save you money, as theres less wasted litter, but this stuff is inexpensive enough that its not much of an issue .

It works well in self-cleaning boxes as well. Since it doesnt stick to surfaces, its less likely to cause the rake to get stuck in the middle of a pass.

As youd likely expect, given its ability to keep messes from sticking to surfaces, it makes nice, tight clumps, even in the middle of the box. You shouldnt have much issue with clumps breaking apart as you scoop them either.

Its a good thing this litter is easy to clean, though, because its not the best at controlling odors. In fact, it has its own smell that isnt pleasant, so youll want to sprinkle it with deodorizer religiously and clean it every day.

As long as you stay on top of cleaning the box, Slide Multi-Cat is one of the companys best litters and certainly its best value, which is why it earns a silver medal here.

  • Doesnt stick to bottom or sides of box
  • Makes tight clumps
  • Cuts down on wasted litter
  • Performs well in self-cleaning boxes
  • Litter has a pungent smell
  • Struggles to contain odors
  • Takes a long time to clump up

Top 2 Best Biodegradable Litters For Multiple Cats

Blue Buffalo Naturally Fresh Walnut-Based Multi-Cat Quick-Clumping Cat Litter Review

Natural, biodegradable walnut cat litter

The second biodegradable cat litter on our list is this product made from walnut shells. This concentrated formula was designed for multiple cat homes and offers superior absorption, tight clumping, and good odor control.

According to Blue Buffalo, this walnut litter absorbs 3X more than the leading brand of clay litter. The fibrous material of walnut shells naturally neutralizes odors and clumps when it comes into contact with liquid waste.

One of the biggest complaints about this litter is its color: walnut litter is naturally a dark brown color that can make it difficult to see waste while scooping. Another effect of the dark color is that it makes tracked litter obvious. Some reviewers say that it looks like coffee granules tracked around the house.

That said, cats like the fine texture of the litter and its one of the best litters for those who dislike dust. Its a 99% dust-free litter that will keep you and your cat breathing comfortably. Buy It

Pros

  • Cats like the texture of the litter
  • Environmentally friendly
  • Dark granules make it difficult to differentiate between clean and dirty litter
  • Tracks quite a bit

Arm & Hammer Feline Pine Platinum Cat Litter

Curious kittens may decide to taste their litter. Clumping litter can cause intestinal blockages, explains Nicole Van Andel, cat behaviorist at Tuft + Paw. And geriatric cats have a more difficult time cleaning themselves. Theyll especially benefit from a litter that doesnt stick to their paws.

Litter made of pine has a naturally pleasant scent that blocks eau de feline toilet without the need of artificial fragrances. Pine litter doesnt clump, yet it still gets the enthusiastic vote of many cat parents and vets. Jeff Smith, veterinarian at Danville Family Vet in Danville, Virginia, especially likes Feline Pine, which he has found to be naturally odor absorbent and attractive to most cats.

Clumping Ability: Clumps That Crumble

Cat

Arm & Hammer Platinum promises rock hard clumps. With that pledge in mind, we were expecting exceptional clumping ability. Maybe we set our expectations too high, but we werent impressed with how it clumped.

Just to clarify, it wasnt overly difficult to scoop and the cat urine did, generally, clump together, but it crumbled immediately upon scooping. Because Mila prefers to use one corner of her litter box, we also found that rather than turning into individual lumps, the Arm & Hammer litter created one large clump that was impossible to scoop out in one go.

Maybe we set our expectations too high, but we werent impressed with how it clumped.

Important Things To Know About Cat Litter

When it comes to our tabbys, we want to make sure that we are providing the best care and that includes their bathroom facilities. That being said, we also want to make sure that we are safe, as well.

One of the most dangerous things about your litter box is the fecal matter. Though we know it is gross, it can also have serious side effects. Toxoplasmosis is a parasitic disease that can be transmitted to humans through cat poop. Some people do not see any signs of the infection, but for those with immune deficiencies and women who are pregnant, it can be serious.

Besides that, silica dust can be harmful. In concentrated forms, it can cause lung cancer. Thankfully, many litters have a low dust rating or are made of other ingredients, such as:

All of the different formulas have their pros and cons, but overall you want a product that is going to have the full package, which we will take a look at now

The Best Cat Litter For Multiple Cats

One of the most important things a cat owner has to decide is which kitty litter to use. When you have more than one cat, finding the best cat litter for multiple cats is a must.

You want a litter that is absorbent, doesnt track all over the house, isnt too dusty, and most importantly, traps litter box odors so no one will ever know that you have multiple cats. This is why our overall pick for the best multi-cat litter is Arm & Hammer Clump & Seal Multi-Cat.

When using a cat litter that isnt well formulated for more than one cat, you can end up with a stinky house or even worse, a cat that refuses to use the litter box and does their business elsewhere in your home. That is obviously not ideal, so its important to find a cat litter that works well and your cat wont reject.

Weve also provided you with more detailed write-ups of each litter box to help you get a better understanding of which option would work best for your cat.

1) The PetSafe Simply Clean Automatic Litter Box

How It Works: The PetSafe Simply Clean Automatic Litter Box runs on electricity and uses clumping, clay cat litter that you pour into the bowl. This bowl rotates slowly and continuously, and makes one full rotation every hour. The bowls slow rotation moves any litter clumps or solid waste toward a conveyor belt, which picks them up and drops them into a covered waste bin. All the owner needs to do is remove the bin and dump the waste as needed. One litter box can comfortably care for the uses of two cats.

Cons: The PetSafe Simply Clean Automatic Litter Box received a neutral rating for Ease of Setup because there is some assembly required that can be a little tricky. The unit has a weight limit of 15 pounds, so cats weighing more than that may have trouble fitting in the litter box. The sides of the unit are also shorter than those of some competitors, so you may have some trouble with cat litter scatter. Additionally, some consumer reviews on Amazon.com complained of the conveyor belt dying after a few weeks, but those complaints seem to be few and far between. There also doesnt seem to be any back-up battery system in place, yet.

Pretty Litter Cat Litter Review (We Tested It for a Month)

When it comes to your litter box, certain requirements need to be filled. You want a formula that will keep your home smelling fresh, and you want to avoid cleaning the cat box with a paint scraper and face mask.

Lets take a look at some of the factors you should be looking for:

  • Clumping: A litter that creates nice, hard clumps is key. It makes cleaning the box so much easier and stops the moisture from mixing with the formula and creating a mess.
  • Odor Control: Odors are another important issue you want to control. The three scents you need to neutralize are ammonia, urine, and feces. Now here is the tricky part although many litters have fragrance such as Febreze, you want to make sure the formula of the litter itself is going to neutralize and trap odors, otherwise, you are just masking the smell.
  • Tracking: If you have followed your toms paw prints throughout your house with a vacuum, you no the importance of a non-tracking formula. Not only does it cause a nasty mess, but the litter can have urine and poo on it.
  • Dust: Anyone with respiratory illnesses or allergies will definitely need a low dust formula. Even if you are in great health, the dust is not good to breathe in, plus it causes a mess. Be advised, though, there are very few REALLY dust-free litters. The ones that are typically are lacking in other ways.

The Best Flushable Corn Cat Litterbut Use Caution

Again and again while working on this guide, we heard from people who swore by Worlds Best Cat Litter, which is made of corn. We ordered some to test, just to see what the fuss was about. It smells like a farm, and objectively, it forms soft mushy clumps. But those who love it mainly love it because the company claims that the litter is flushable .

However, putting your litter down the drain can do damage to local wildlife. As weve written in our guide to dog poop bags, the US Environmental Protection Agency classifies pet waste as a pollutant, which can introduce excess nutrients and harmful microorganisms like parasites and coliform bacteria into rivers, streams, and groundwater. An issue particular to cat waste is toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection carried by cats that in humans can cause serious complications during pregnancy and for those who have weakened immune systems. In California, evidence has linked toxoplasmosis from cat feces to increased mortality in sea otters, prompting legislation to attach anti-flushing notices on cat litter bags. As a sanitation operations manager told The New York Times about wet wipes, which are also supposedly flushable: I agree that theyre flushable. A golf ball is flushable, but its not a good idea.

What Does It Mean If A Cat Stops Urinating

If a cat stops urinating altogether, it is likely they are experiencing a feline urinary tract disease such as bladder inflammation or urinary stones or crystals. Male cats are particularly susceptible to the latter. “Male cats have a very narrow urethra, so crystals and mucus can form a plug or a single tiny stone may become lodged anywhere along this narrow tube,” said Tannert.

If a cat is unable to urinate, deadly toxins begin building up. Death can occur if the blockage isn’t removed by a veterinarian within 24 to 48 hours. If a veterinarian rules out medical problems like FLUTD, anxiety may be the culprit, a problem a veterinary behaviorist is best equipped to handle.

Overall Is Arm & Hammer Cat Litter A Good Choice

At first glance, we werent sure that we were going to like Arm & Hammer cat litter. Despite the affordable price, were used to seeing this brand sold in big box stores and grocery stores where quality isnt always the priority. We were pleasantly surprised, however, after testing two cat litters and one litter deodorizer that the brand keeps to its promises as a whole when it comes to long-lasting odor control, hard-clumping action, and low dust and tracking.

Again, the main thing we noticed about Arm & Hammer cat litter is the sandy texture. This is not necessarily a problem, but it may take getting used to for some cats. This texture also means that clumps sometimes break up into tiny rocks, but they are easily scooped away, and you generally arent left with a gluey mess at the bottom of the litter box.

For affordable odor control, we heartily recommend Arm & Hammer cat litter. We look forward to reviewing some of their other products in the future, including some of their natural cat litters.

So What Is The Best Cat Litter

Frisco Multi

There really is no clear answer to which type of cat litter is the best. The choice between clumping and non-clumping litter is a personal decision that will depend on what you want in a cat litter and what your cat prefers. Many cats appear to prefer clumping litter because it is easier for them to push aside, but some cats prefer non-clumping clay.

Both clumping and non-clumping cat litters do produce some dust, although there are formulations of both types that are designed to decrease the amount of dust in the litter. Litters can also be a concern for pet owners if the litter is ingested. This will depend on the litter material and the amount of litter ingested. Generally, it takes a lot of ingested litter to cause a problem and it is often more of a concern for dogs that like to raid the cat litter box than it is for the cat.

Choosing the litter that your cat prefers makes it less likely that litter box avoidance issues and inappropriate elimination will become a problem for you. Your preferences combined with your cats preferences will determine what the best cat litter is for youand which litter you will want to stick with.

What we like about it:

  • Unscented and dust-free

Many clay cat litters contain silica dust which can contribute to lung disease with long-term exposure. This respiratory relief clumping cat litter is specifically designed to control respiratory disease by being hypoallergenic, low in dust, and free from perfumes and deodorants.

In addition to being low in dust, this clay cat litter contains natural essences which help reduce stress.
